Welcome to IWETHEY!

New So, I did my thing for Biden today.
On my own initiative, I took a Biden poster and walked back and forth near the two polling stations that just happened to be temporarily in the same building. I did this for four hours. Surprisingly, given that this Sun City has roughly 5000 residents, I was the only one doing this.

My wife discouraged me from doing this because most people in Sun City are are Republicans and some neighbors may resent my coming out as Democrat and Biden supporter. Small price to pay in my view.

Other than being told to move myself across the street by a county official to be over 200 feet away from the building and a Trumpee who told me "So, you're going to vote for a thief!" I had lots of positive feedback. Lot's of thumbs ups and a few car honks. Also, a few friendly conversations with pedestrian voters.

I don't know that I changed anyone's mind, but at least I reinforced some people's choice.

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

-- Isaac Asimov
New Even better, you helped normalize coming out as a Democrat

New I'm worried.
Despite my earlier post about "holding my nose and voting for the Senator from MBNA", I'm genuinely afraid that Trump stands a better than 50% chance of winning re-election no matter who is the Democratic nominee. I'm not speaking of the popular vote, of course. I'm of two minds: on the one hand, I think Americans are, in general, too stupid and too well fed on decades and decades of "Socialism is bad" propaganda to accept, let alone overtly support, fundamental changes, so I'm reluctant to support Bernie this go 'round. On the other, if we nominate a pro-corporate, pro-bankster, pro-health insurance industry, status quo candidate again this time, we're looking down the barrel of another 2016 disaster. Nothwithstanding the fact that I believe we'll see a repeat in the voting pattern of Bernie supporters who turned out in greater number for Hillary than former Hillary supporters turned out for Obama.
