Actually, I think that the way we're organising licensing in the eComStation world is the right way to go about it. Our approach is that the user buys a license to use in perpetuity, and that there is a subscription service that automatically entitles the user to any updates to their product that come down the pipe.
There are two aspects to our approach. The first is the subscription service; it's called [link|http://consultron.ca/english/products/ecomstation/ecsupg.html|Upgrade Protection]. The second is the way we're going to deal with the different pieces of the various eComStation distributions. For the retail market, we're going to have three or four different bundles. However, for the channel, we're breaking out the distribution into five or six parts: base system, freeware app pack, professional app pack, SMP, and Virtual PC. This will mean that a reseller will be able to just count up the workstations that require each part and build the order. It should make license administration very easy. We're hoping that this will prove to be very appealing to the SMB and even the enterprise market.
