New Has anybody tried Ubuntu-Mate?
I'm starting up a new machine (HP laptop, I7, 8gb) to replace my work machine that died. I want to put a VMBox section with linux on so I can get to information from my previous linux machines. Is Ubuntu Mate usable or should I just put a vanilla Debian on and load what I know?
Suggestions?

New My last VM was Mint13. Ran and updated fine.
I haven't used Mate, though. Mint seems well done, but do note that version upgrades aren't supported (gotta do a fresh install).

HTH a little. Good luck

Cheers,
Scott.
New Lack of version upgrades turned me off.
Which was a shame as I kind of liked Mint. I liked Ubuntu 10.04 more; pity it's so far out of date.

New No guarantees with vanilla Debian anymore either
My one and only fresh installation of Jessie, bare metal on a plain Jane HP a410n (P4, 2GB), went fine until the first boot. Then systemd hung during fsck with no way out. I ended up having to do it over with Wheezy.
