I haven't looked the guy up, but I'll trust AScott's description as "a crank". Regardless, this particular piece - despite a few nods to the deniers - claims to be avoiding that whole issue. It's just saying that popular media coverage of weather (and climate) is horrible.

Yup, sure is. Just like coverage of every other damn thing. Problem is, some people use "popular coverage sucks" as evidence that the truth is not known. Frequently, it is known. Just not by the talking heads or, if they do know, they know that reality doesn't get the same ratings as sensationalism.
