There's been an amazing explosion of wildlife around the DC area over the last 10 years or so. Bald Eagles are common (I usually see one over I-295 at the south corner of DC in the mornings). We've had a colony of ground hogs at work for about 5 years, and a pack of foxes in the last couple or so.
I've only seen a coyote once in our neighborhood, but there's been an explosion of foxes in the last 5-10 years or so. They don't seem to be doing much to the squirrel population, so maybe they're working on mice and rabbits or something...
Unfortunately, too many of the foxes seem to be fearless around cars - they're often carcasses on the roads. :-(
There are the occasional black bear sightings, too...
Cheers,
Scott.
