The Green Table.

Eloquent words for the even partially-literate;
Dance, gesture for those who aren't--but who retain the ability to think.

New We're number one! (Shakes tiny fist at the sky)
>>> -but if a government is supported by a plurality of those possessing neither faculty..

Excerpt from the comments on the book below:

"The mass-man is content in his own mediocrity, and feels it unnecessary to strive toward excellence. This mass-man who once submitted to his superiors, now feels compelled to involve himself in everything and impose his will on everyone. This is often done through violence and is done without regard for rationality or reason."

However, readers beware:

"As relevant today as it was some eight decades ago. It is a slow read! Requires complete concentration and at times re-reading of sentences and whole paragraphs in order to follow the author's logic."

New Another fine riposte, and it has an addendum
Turns out, too--that the very first post is incisive (one Tyler Smith). Concluding a decent summary of this prescient classic he says,

[. . .]

Some might find the author's insistence that mass society must defer to a group of elites repugnant and of course if the idea is embraced simplistically it is just that. But if one is prodded by Ortega y Gasset's demand for a radical commitment to building society, he will quite possibly begin looking at his surroundings and the time in which he lives with a new appreciation and sense of urgency.

As this is dated 3-26-01.. one must award Brownie Points for prescience too, as he could hardly have guesstimated 9/11 thence.. the depravity of the Cheney Shogunate
--though he obviously would have been unsurprised at the supine acceptance by the mob, of tired-old-Reagan soporifics, catalysts for the New-Century dismantling of society
(and of any probity remaining 'in the masses' ... on through 2014.)

We Must be within a genuine Inflection-Point, I wot ... perspicuous koans ... appearing in random Posts ... (even within a Capitalist-wet-dream) as assuredly, Amazon Inc. Is !!

(I may even be enjoying our denouement; kinda like re-Living Shakespeare?)
Should I discorporate tomorrow, at least I heard FDR on radio, saw McCarthy die-politically on Tee Vee, saw JFK from ~ 15' away ...
and Audrey Hepburn signed her 'Program' "on my back" (there being no clean spot on which to write.)
Some Universes Win, I guess and then ... others just wink-out (?) ignominiously. If Siva says: FAIL.
