"Didn't wossname Bose lay aside the spoon just the other year, too?"
—for introducing me to this delightful idiom, which I had not come across in fifty-six years of reading.
cordially,

You're ever so welcome. It's a direct...
...translation from the Swedish "lägga bort skeden", as in, "he ain't eating no more soup".

Read some pratchett
I've been reading them on the train ride, in order, occasionally skipping the ones I've read before, and can remember.
I'm on Eric right now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld Pratchett uses wossname a LOT. So does does my father-in-law. So I hear it in my father-in-law's voice everytime I read it. |

What, you think Rand meant that bit? Naah, surely not...?
He's been hanging around with Peter here for ages and ages; also, he's smart enough to decipher it stone cold. Must have been the "put away the spoon" bit -- n'est-ce pas, M. C?

'twas indeed the spoon
...and I intend to do my part, before the ladle stops coming round to my end of the table, to introduce this valuable meme into North American usage (it's probably already current in the Great Lakes region, but seems unknown in sunny* California). "Wossname" was not a stretch.
cordially, *Cool and partly overcast this morning, but looking to turn into another day of splendor. |

Not on the north side of the Great Lakes
though I can't really speak for the whole region, but it was a new one on me.
