. . only about 10% of the DNA in the human body is human DNA.

Humans are composite creatures, vast communities of animals, fungi, bacteria, archaea, protista and whatever have you, all dependent on each other - a cooperative (mostly) effort to achieve shared goals.

The very cells our animal and fungus components (and plants too) are made of, called Eucarayotes, were formed as complex colonies of formerly independent critters. The bacteria and archaea also, but in much simpler forms.
