New Only thing I'm worried about
What happens if they kill gmail? I thought Reader was safe, now that's gone.
--

Drew
New Reader has waning interest.
GMAIL is doubling in size about every 9 months.

Plus, for paid service, I've gone from 10GB of mail storage in 2009 to 30GB of mail storage now... and they use a compressed format. they 9GB I'm using right now... would be well over 40GB of mail on my server.

E-mail and Apps are tied together hugely... separate services like Reader was... aren;t going away anytime in the next 10+ year... if ever.

New It's a cornerstone of their world
Advertising on web pages requires them to track everything you do and play the ads accordingly. Lots of overhead, and they can never be sure it is targeted correctly. Advertising in gmail allows them to just scan your email.

It's how they compete with MS directly, killing Exchange boxes.

It is an income stream in itself, with LOTS of paid customers.

And MOST important, if they make noises about it going away, the NSA will force them to keep it.

It's not going away.
