Seen plenty ...
It amazing at just how fast a Bald or Golden can eat a squirrel sized animal or a fish of that size.
About 3 minutes if its hungry. --

This was a youngster.
It was having trouble moving the (quite fat) squirrel around. It took a few hours.
A baby would have been a feast for a few weeks. ;-) Cheers, Scott. |

First year...
for most Eagle is a Do or Die kind of thing. They learn purty dern quick to eat quickly.
A young one being under a year old does take a few months of hunting and eating on their own to get up to speed and what objects to avoid. Case in point 2 Decorah, Iowa fledges died from touching electrical wires on telephone poles. The one that was "tagged" with a radio beacon was getting to be a pro at eating. A few days before its death, they filmed it eating a full grown rabbit in about 15 minutes. --

J was addicted to it for a while this year. She's going to be upset to find out that one died so young.

Eagles, forsooth...
We have red hawks in our neighborhood. One of them tried for our miniature Schnauzer (about 15 pounds) but she got away with a small claw or beak wound on the top of her head. Apparently, if the bird couldn't stun her on the first pass, it was more practical to find easier fast food. Eagles are probably not as picky when shopping...
