New So why do you suppose those weapons were not used?
Alex

New As if they had an opportunity.
They're no good for civilian stealth attacks because they're too bulky to hide. They're not much good for defense of their headquarters because that's all close quarters urban fighting. They'd be perfect for a large military offensive, but Sharon quashed them before they had a chance.

So they had all these nice shiny weapons to kill Jews with and no opportunity to use them, because those meanies beat them to the punch. Boo hoo. Suck it up.

If competence is considered "hubris" then may I and my country always be as "arrogant" as we can possibly manage.
New So, no Israeli tanks for anti-tank rockets?

New I take it you've never played Doom?
Or if you have, your games always end suddenly after you've fired off a rocket in a confined space, and you can never understand why.

New Now that we've established your experience level......
So, you're basing your opinions off of what you've seen happen in a fantasy game?

Doom != Reality

Sad, but true.
New You're one to talk.
Your entire world is a fantasy.

New M16 (A1 and A2), M60, M2 (50 cal), LAW, claymore, and M203.
Weapons that I have fired.

7 years in the army.

E-6 in 4 years.

Your entire world is a fantasy.

Just keep repeating that. It makes you feel better. I have real world experience and you have late nights playing Doom.

I have three years as platoon sergeant. You have TV.

I have live agent training at Ft. McClellan. You have comic books.

Your jingoism will keep you warm. Your ignorance will prove you're right.
New OK, how _does_ it work?
What are good tactics for usin an RPG in a door-to-door urban combat? (I am simply curious) (I wonder if tanks stayed away until infantry cleaned the buildings out).
New Offense or defense?
[link|http://www.emergency.com/rpg7.htm|image]

If you're aggressing the site, you'd use the RPG's make holes in buildings so your troops could go in. You might use them to take out snipers, but that's unlikely. You make a nice target when you're firing one of those. Think back to any war movie you've seen with a guy firing a bazooka. A guy with an M203 would do better in urban conflict than a guy with an RPG.

If you're encountering sufficient resistance to require that kind of weaponry, fall back and call in artillery or let a tank go first.

On defense, you'd use it to take out the aggressor's heavy equipment (tanks and APC's). But the signature means that you're going to draw ALL their fire. Using these against troops is difficult (unless they're formed up and marching).

Remember min/max. Trade the life of one guy with an RPG for one tank and crew. If you start trading RPG's for regular grunts, you're going to lose the war.

New RPG defence in close quarters
Tanks are close infantry support. Spider holes with a few RPGs scattered can do a lot of damage. pull back the cover, flip and fire then find a hole. To be effective in Jenin you would need 1 RPG man to kill 2 tanks to be effective, after the first spider was discovered, flamethrowers around the corners, would be the next offensive move, light them up to get movement.

New M203?
Can you use these safely in room to room combat? Or is it better to throw a gernade?

How much more powerful are RPGs?

Maybe Marlowe isn't familiar with combat 'cause he was in the USAF (if anything)?
Ray
New Not the M203 part.
The M203 is an M16 with a grenade launcher slung under it.

The grenades need to spin three times in order to arm themselves. I don't know how far that is when launched, but grenades aren't very good choices for close combat anyway. I left "grenade" off of my original list. We had grenade pieces flying over the concrete barricade (figure a distance of 90 meters) when we were tossing them. Being in the same room complex when a grenade went off would probably negatively affect your hearing for a while. Not a good thing when you have bad guys near you.

But, you can put these through windows very easily.

RPG's are more powerful. An M203 would not stop a tank. An RPG can. An RPG is similar to the old bazooka or current LAW.
New An RPG is hard to hide?
Well, I guess if you define "hiding" it as carrying it under your jacket........

But it will fit quite nicely in the corner of a closet or under a bed or just about any place else.

Then, when the enemy comes around, you can blast them from your window or rooftop or where ever. Although I would not recommend using one in an apartment you would like to continue living in.

Buried weapons are beyond stupid.

They'd be perfect for a large military offensive, but Sharon quashed them before they had a chance.
Ah, another astute observation from an armchair general.

The ONLY weapons that are better for offensives are Nukes, artillery (howitzers and such), and big missles (cruise type).

If one person can carry it and fire it, it is BEST for DEFENSIVE operations.

Because DEFENDING is EASIER than ATTACKING.

One RPG can take out a tank.

Now, care to do the math on how many RPG's you can buy for the cost of ONE tank?
