Is that why there have been several reports since this became "newsworthy" of people hearing the screeners selecting women based on looks? Sure, most of them are as you describe. But they're treating us like we're all guilty of the acts of a few, it only seems fair we get to do the same. After all, they're the ones with guns and badges. Their rules of engagement should assume the worst of their employees and still prevent abuse. They aren't there yet. -- Drew

The few times I've seen it, the screeners seemed far too over-worked and burned out to be perving. Also too overworked and burned out to be an inconvenience to the bad guys. But I don't fly much, and when I do I'm usually not paying a whole lot of attention to who the screeners are picking. I really have a problem with being rude to front-line people who are acting in a professional manner within the policies they played no part in setting. Increases the unpleasantness in the world without a chance at solving the problem. If we hassle the screener enough, the screener may quit, but that means nothing to the policy people, they'll just hire more. The underwear with the text of the 4th is OK with me. Expresses the objection without being obnoxious. Didn't certain German military personnel get sanctioned for "doing their job" after the war in trials all over policy and actions related to that policy? What about some of the Japanese after the war? Oh wait, what about the first first Desert Storm? What about things right now in the current Afghan and Iranian wars? Just following policy... just doin' the job. Sorry move along.

Most of the screeners have to figure out pretty quickly that they're not really doing anything worthwhile. Give a bunch of poorly-paid, poorly-trained people vast authority over a large, intimidated population, with an apparent mandate of "Be Seen Doing Something" and you've got the Stanford prison experiment. -- Drew
