New Re: Interested to see if this is actual
First, if they have any intelligence whatsoever, they would know that this requires constitutional amendment...not law.

Your making the mistaken assumption that Republicans intend to succeed here. They don't, intend to get some good publicity while failing.

The Republicans may try some real immigration reform also, but real reform is too complex an issue to campaign on. Birthright citizenship and anchor babies are trivial issues that easily digest down to soundbites and 30 second press/news bits. Real reform will likely create some conflict between the Tea Party wing and the Corporate wing of the party, so they may simply punt.

Jay
New ah, I see
they don't actually intend to pass anything...just talk on tv about it.

Gotcha.
Sure, understanding today's complex world of the future is a little like having bees live in your head. But...there they are.
New hey the 2012's are right around the corner

New She was talking to Barbra Walters...
And thinks she could easily beat Obama now.

Wow. LOTS of assumptions there.
New Yeah...I wanna know what land
she was looking at the lay of...

I don't even think she could win the party.

New It is going to make for an interesting campaign
Something tells me I'm going to be tired of the whole mess long before we get to 1012 though.

The Republicans look like they have a big problem, with a raft of unqualified publicity hounds and unknown radicals, but they have had this problem before and dealt with it. The Republican party has a strong party machine behind the scenes and they are good at closing ranks once the candidate is selected.

The Democratic position will depend on the economy and that is really about it. If the economy recovers, Obama will coast into a second term. If it doesn't, then he faces a fight. If the economy crashes again he might not even get the nomination.

Jay
New every democrat should be working their ass of to have
palin head the ticket. That will ensure an Obama victory. Also the independants that voted obama in are the same folks that voted out the dems in congress. They would prefer a split government as the last two times a single party controlled everything it got bad fast. We may have learned from that

New See, that's weird
that's almost universally the case in our history; only in times of minority parliaments could one say that the government is split, and yet somehow we've not ended up with rank incompetents running the show.

It's not split government that's the answer, it's changing how you select the people who get to run for office.
