New Mostly agree
"enact a law that no federal employee can make more than a congress critter"

That just means they'll raise congressional pay. Plus dozens of ways to game this that I can think of without trying hard.

Other choices not offered:

* Eliminate patent protection for drugs and pay for research with direct NIH funding. Medicare/Medicaid savings will more than make up the cost of funding.

* Allow foreign-trained doctors to get licensed here. Let local docs see what foreign competition feels like.

* Same for attorneys.

* Require all congresscritters to use only the Medicare/Medicaid benefits available to civilians of their age. (This assumes we've already got the "everyone can join Medicaid" proposal done.)

* Financial transaction tax. Stop churning and make the inside-the-server-room arbitrage unprofitable.

New Re: inside the server room arbitrage
Personally, that whole practice where those with privileged access to the NYSX systems get to use microtransactions done based on the lag time between it hitting there and hitting everyone else should get prosecuted under insider trading laws.
New Agreed, but how do you legislate against it?
Ban the current setup, where they're physically co-located in the exchange server room, and they'll just build a new space at the NOC or the CO, whichever gets them the signal faster. They don't have to be faster than everybody, or faster by a lot. Just faster than most, and just by a little.

It wouldn't take much of a transaction cost to eat up the margin from that activity.

New Use the existing legislation
go into the server rooms, seize the machines of everyone who's got one in their, run the forensics on it, and start putting the officers of those institutions in jail for running those trades.

It'll clean up quick.
New What? How dare you...
Think of effective ways to get things like this done...

You are lucky you Canuck-i-stan-ers up there aren't a Political state of the USians!

You'd be slung up and left to dry.

How dare you think clearly! That is supposed to be the Majestic12 only!
