New Re: Interesting gamesmanship

When it became apparent that the Republicans were going to attach "poison pill" amendments to the bill that had nothing to do with 9/11 and everything to do with their political agenda, Democrats shut down the possibility of amending the bill by moving it to the suspension calendar, where a minimum 2/3rds vote is needed for it to pass.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from."

New apparent to whom?
Democrats put it in suspension (where they knew it wouldn't pass, and could blame in on Republicans) instead of putting it through the normal channel because the Republicans >might< add things that would make it hard to pass (in which case they could blame Republicans).

So the D's KNEW one course (it wouldn't pass)and took it

as opposed a taking a SUSPECTED course (where it would likely have passed).

Whose the worse party in this? It actually had a chance if they used normal channels..and had no chance at 2/3.
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.

I'm glad to see D's knew exactly how R's would vote.
New Why did they know
because they had about a dozen of their own to offset the republicans who were on the record to vote for passage.

and how horrible would it have been to qualify folks to receive benefits? (ensure citizenship) What a poison pill that would have been.

New No offense, but you missed the point entirely...
Republican can go on the record - they can go off the record. They could have chosen to vote for it, or not.

Blasting Democrats for how REPUBLICANS vote... well...
New no, it appears you did
I'm nowhere near blaming democrats for how republicans vote. But they shouldn't be absolved for this bill failing, either. It was their fault.
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.
New Really?
Frankly I'm still surprised at your actions then.

If it's the Republican fault, you could blast them for not voting for the bill..but that wasn't what you appeared to be doing.

You appeared to be blasting Democrats for choosing a 'hard-line' option...and ignoring the Republican stance completely.
New Really?
Interesting, as I have pretty much not mentioned anything regarding the republican stance here.

You seem to be willing to give Democratic leadership a pass..even though their actions are equally culpable...which is, in essence, the exact response they expected, which, is pretty much exactly why they did what they did.

So which one of us is living more in the moment?
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.
