New How far can FBI spying go?
[link|http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,45730,00.html|[link|http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,45730,00.html|http://www.wired.co...5730,00.html]]

Apparently a judge is trying to decide if a keylogger log can be used as evidence or if it can be ruled as wire tapping? I think the FBI used the keylogger to get around the guy using PGP encryption in his email.

This could be an important case if the keylogger is seen as a wire tap. Or if it is found to violate any federal law.

New guffaw! he didnt notice that vnc was installed?
always when you boot or log in look for processes via taskman or ps-ef to see if only what you expect is running. I hope that they decide that this is a wire tap. I am also heartened that they did run the evidence past a judge to get permission.

New It may have been installed in the keyboard
and recorded each keystroke. Which means it also got the mistakes he made and everything else he typed.

Also I think there is a way you can hide the program in Windows to not appear in the Task Manager, at least that is what those Taskbar docked applications do, just remove the Taskbar icon and it is impossible to detect. You know, those icons on the right side part of the taskbar where the clock is.

Sometimes the virus people rename their virus code to something like "rundli" or something that looks like rundll so you think it is a system process.

New You can also run it as a DLL
DLLs do not appear in Task Manager. You could write a DLL and attach it to something you expect to be there (such as Explorer.exe) Or better, rewrite (or append to) an existing DLL such that the keylogger stuff is triggered by additional code added to an otherwise benign DLL entry point, one that is likely to be run as a "normal" part of the "infected" program.

Isn't Micros~1 stuff fun?

New Re: How far can FBI spying go?
on the side, how do you make the links active like that? I put www.something.com in my posts, it lies there dead. You put www.something.com and it is a link.
French Zombies are zapping me with lasers!
New Use the source, Luke.
View the page source to see how Orion does it - it's just an HTML reference.

This is my sig. There's another almost like it, but this one is mine.
New Couple nice things about EZ frills:
With "[]" ya don't need the &^*%@*# SHIFT key all the time as with those funny angle-bracket thingies.

And - links are treated as links through advanced AI recognition of a certain sequence which usually means - D'Oh! - it's a URL!

(Now maybe Scott hasn't read Tom Sawyer recently so..)

Sadly, Scott isn't quite ept enough to create a Zope-a-Dope "friendly EZ environment" - and we shouldn't twit him about it. Some things are just too hard, y'know. S'okay though.

{sigh}

Ashton
No really - it's almost impossible to do; only true genii ever accomplish this.
New Heh.
Appealing to my baser ego, eh, Ashton? ;-)

Even genii need open schedules...

New Moi? Nahhhhh
Sure - it's lo priority. Even I can manage the weirdo angle-thingies. Just lazy and all. But prolly any old URL - link shortcut would save the most wasted keystrokes / cut&paste dance (?)

We hatessss the SSssssshift key

My Precioussss...
New It could very well be
that he doesn't seem to think that they are a priority to use EzCode type emulation in the latest Zope changes. I think he may want to get the system stable and get the more important changes out before adding any sort of EzCode emulation or URL translation. That is just my assumption.

New There you go again.
