Thus, and perhaps long before we drown in our own Si-valley transistor chemical effluents + NO_x and the miasmas from the land-fills (full of last month's toys - and lead-glass CRTs): We may get to see the End as a *BANG* and not... that seemingly more fitting end to a smug entirely Self-centered bunch of sheep with 'consumption' disease (TB of the soul?) ie - the proverbial whimper. It's sneaked back in, under the"ABM er 'Defense'" (hah!) rubric, what with all the distractions of the latest War On Axles or Evuls or Something. The "Space Command" is its official presence, as we prepare to mine the universe (and then, natch: turn the stuff over to Corporate). And, for comic relief: putatively we also have China in our sights! Oh the penultimate humorousness.. Notice how we have embarked upon a new isolationism, the trashing of treaties on everything from land-mines to ABMS -unilaterally- and witholding of humanitarian aid, on Fundamentalist religious grounds (re birth control) etc. ? Pattern? So never mind the long-slow lung-death of pollutants: we're saddled up [maybe] for the real quick OK-Corral denouement! :-\ufffd HTH, Ashton ..never expected such Entertainment right through to the Omega !!

Or, can we take the momentum from the successes in second hand smoke legislation and transfer it into a coherent platform for an Anti-ICBM/Starwars summit? In a recent class on fumigating noxious planets inhabited by carbon-units of surpassing low survival qualities + large 'mouth'-holes in {ugh} whitish-looking 'faces' - A second year student from Cygnus opined that.. perhaps we should not be too hard on the Terran system since - it was our very own explorer ship whose ejected urine bags, led to the spawning of this particularly banal life-form (then the class snickered when s/he whispered, Do you know how they have sex* there ??*) After the guffawing (and uncontrollable snorting from the very long-necked Rigelian) subsided - it was decided that this question should be taken up at the next ethics colloquium; after all, we allowed the smallpox bacterium to survive in its small crystal microbarium. Still.. should this 'second-hand smoke' show signs of migration from the Terran Quarantined Sector, well.. Gort has his instructions. In keeping with their highest ethical valuez: we'll just 'buy' them and then we may treat them as they treat their other 'abandoned pets': Banal Life Systems Terminated.
