New OS X 10.6: fast, good, cheap.
Seems to do all three.

Evolution, not revolution.

But at the price, it's worth having.

Flawless installs on both computers here.
New Re: OS X 10.6: fast, good, cheap.

Upgrade.

Absolutely seamless.

iStat menus don't work any more, but pretty much everything else does.

New There's a list at TheReg.
Dunno how accurate it is, YMMV, etc.

Cheers,
Scott.
(Who will probably wait a while before getting it.)
New Plan to pick it up tonight
New Noticeably faster!
Took 47 minute to install.

Free drive space increased by 13.4 GB. Way more than I would have expected...

lots of improvements
New Apple changed how the drive size is reported
http://macdailynews....g/comments/22247/

I guess that means my 13.4 GB of extra space is really 12.4 GB. Still a nice savings.

Guess I was up too late for math last night :-)

My free space before was 59.08, after was 72.44. What I did last night was (after-before) * conversion, when what I should have done was (after * conversion) - before. Conversion = 3.7 / 4

(72.44 * 3.7 / 4) - 59.08 = 7.93

That's more in line with what everybody else is reporting. Still, a nice chunk of extra space.

New Siracusa on SL
Here as in times past the most exhaustive, technically best-informed* analysis of a new OS X iteration.

cordially,

*Yeah, like I'm competent to judge. At least a third of the 23 screens treat under-the-hood elements so abstruse to my lay sensibilities that they might as well be essays on semiotics composed in Cretan Linear B. But the guy talks a good game, has edified me times past to the extent I'm capable of taking instruction, and if he's good enough for John Gruber, I'm on board.
New Zooks! 23 pages! That's Proustian for the Web! :-)
Thanks for the pointer.

Cheers,
Scott.
New awesome, finally a clear explaination
of the filesystem hpfs as well as a host of other great under the hood explainations. GREAT LINK
THANX,
BILL
New My upgrade this evening
One hiccup (restart to old OS twenty minutes on); nothing out of the ordinary thereafter. Still in the early phases of detecting incompatibilities.
