On a related note
There seems to be a push to label Bush as "not really a conservative" since his numbers started approaching Nixon levels. Paul Krugman demolishes that meme. [link|http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/08/opinion/08krugman.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin|Link] There have been a number of articles recently that portray President Bush as someone who strayed from the path of true conservatism.

On the contrary, he\ufffds the very model of a modern movement conservative.

I also think
it's WAY too soon to be gloating, etc.
I'm be far more interested in what happens in (next) November, before I say that Bush has killed off conservativism

<Shrug> She might
but as Scott pointed out, it's so early in the race Mitt and the G man don't even have name recognition yet.
Personally, I (speaking as a Democrat) do not want Hillary to win. Conservates deserve to have her win (considering what they let Bush get away with) but I'd rather see Dodd win.

Why Dodd?
I've been a little surprised by how little traction Sens. Dodd and Biden have received thus far. Well, not really I guess. All the press seems to care about is how much money they've raised ("Because money is an objective measure..." they say.)...
Why do you like Dodd?
Cheers, Scott.

Dodd recently vowed to fight
against the telecom immunity bill.
He's placed a hold on it and (at least said) he would filibuster it.
(It'll be meaningless in the end, as I expect Bush to pardon the execs...but at least he isn't willing to rollover...and is at least willing to give the appearance of a fight.)

That was good.
I respect him for that, and I've wondered why the Democrats haven't used the rules of the House and Senate to control the legislative agenda the way the Republicans did when they had razor thin majority... :-/
There's a related petition mentioned in [link|http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2007/10/privatizing-constitution-by-digby.html|this] article on the immunity provision by Digby.
I don't know enough about Dodd to rule him in or out. It'll be interesting to see how Reid handles it.
I doubt Bush will pardon the telecoms folks - how can he? It would either be so broad that it would cover anything, or he would have to be specific and thus give up information he's trying to keep secret. But we'll see.
Thanks.
Cheers, Scott.

The whole point was he *is* conservatism.
Not the lip service. As it's actually practiced.
