New The idea has been around.
There was a flare up of dinosaur enthusiasm when Jurassic Park came out. One of the people that got a lot of exposure was a paleontologist called Robert Bakker who had a book out at the time that was notorious for saying T-Rex was the "roadrunner from hell". I took my nephew to see him when he lectured at the natural history museum here. He pointed out that dinos had a lot of bird like qualities. He drew a lot of pictures which he gave to the kids. It was a fun lecture.
New Actually...
I've been seeing alot of studies lately saying that t-rex was probably relatively slow [link|http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/06/070607-trex-dinosaur.html|http://news.national...rex-dinosaur.html] (hint: if you're being chased, make a lot of turns :)

Of course none of these scientists have seen one run, so it's all subject to debate.
