Help me out here
I can't work out whether this is a parody or not.

Parody
It is too well written for a bunch of fringe lunatics. Anyone who thinks rape should be called an Unplanned Sexual Event and be regarded as a blessing would be a fringe loony. Even fewer women would want their name with such an idea. The range of loony rants is also poor. Neither are we seeing the usual, boring newsletters of churches.
Matthew Greet
Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin? - Mark Renton, Trainspotting.

Quite possibly not.
The unplanned sexual event bit hit the main stream media some time in the last year without any particular blow back. That may be with us for a while :-(

I don't think it's parody.
I think they're sincerely nuts. Their term of service is completely humorless unless you like laughing at crazy people.
These idiots have more say in our government than lucid people and it's not going to change any time soon.
Sorry.

Me neither.
There's something about the way it's written that says to me that they're genuine. I wish they weren't. In some ways, the Internet makes the little dingbats more visible.

It's pretty good, isn't it?
I mean, not being able to figure it out instantly.
Check out the [link|http://baptistsforbrown2008.wordpress.com/use-prison-ministry/|U.S.E. Prison Ministry] - especially the Legal Statement on the lower right.

Parody
Id like to point out for the record that this steaming pile of blatant misogyny is a parody. Read the comments from the supposed editors, which are sheer lunacy even by Southern Baptist standards. Also, google Rockdale, Georgia. Its not a town, its a county. A search for The Second Baptist Church of Rockdale yields similar results: that church doesnt exist. Sam Brownback, however, is real, and it appears that the quotations that are attributed to him are also real. So, the obvious intent of the parody is to expose what a creepy, anti-choice whackjob he is by amplifying his comments. Its pretty typical. I dont find it particularly amusing though, as I was raised Southern Baptist and have witnessed that kind of woman-hating vitriol firsthand on multiple occasions. Perhaps. It would be nice to think so.
On the other paw, what exactly is "sheer lunacy even by Southern Baptist standards"? I have a brother who is a Virginia baptist snake oil salesman and he's crazier than a shithouse rat. I'm totally unconvinced that this is a joke. My sense of humor has been totally buggered in the past few years so I wouldn't bet highly on its reliability. Go with your best guess...

Re: Perhaps. It would be nice to think so.
I think it is a parody because it doesn't look like the Second Baptist Church of Rockdale, where they supposedly held a fund-raiser, exists.
Also, when I posted a comment on the site, the phrase 'entertaining parody' was removed as profanity.

I suppose that it could be parody being too effective.
Still, "Also, when I posted a comment on the site, the phrase 'entertaining parody' was removed as profanity." would be consistent with real nutters. I would be delighted to be wrong, but I still kinda doubt it.

It's parody.
There's no doubt. It works so well because it's so close to being real. The LEGAL STATEMENT on each of the pages says: Many antogonists on the political Left would like to call it political satire so perhaps everything posted here should be understood in that context. Whatever it takes to keep their tiny brains from overloading. The carefully misplaced spelling helps, a little, doesn't it? Have a look at [link|http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Poe's+Law|Poe's Law] (via a thread at [link|http://richarddawkins.net/articleComments,1505,Scarlet-Letter-Campaign-Update-A-Victory,Tobin-Maker-Resident-Pastor-Baptists-for-Brownback-2008,page2|Richard Dawkin's Blog]). Another discussion of Poe's Law is at [link|http://objectiveministries.org/pastorscorner/|Objective: Ministries]. They say: God is the Creator and Supreme Ruler of the Universe and all that is in it. God is a Singular, Eternal, and Infinite being Who is composed of three Co-Equal Persons (the Trinity): the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. The manifestations and roles of these Co-Equal Persons are distributed according to the following Divine Org Chart: [image|http://objectiveministries.org/statementoffaith/divineorgchart.png|0|Divine Organizational Chart|298|550]HTH! :-) Cheers, Scott.

Thanks, I'm happy to be wrong.
All this is a little outside my sense of humor to begin with, and said sense hasn't been working particularly well. I read that legal statement too, and came away with a different take. I may trade my brain in on a corned beef sandwich...

Well researched!
It had me fooled, but then I didn't dig at all. I'm happy to be proven wrong, too.
