Libertarian Pary membership up 18% in 2007

The Libertarian Party has had an 18 percent increase in membership since January, said Shane Cory, executive director of the Libertarian National Committee. People are bailing on the Republicans, but they are not embracing the Democrats. Apparently the new Democratic party slogans "Ever so slighly less corrupt then the Republicans!" and "We will provide hand basket seat cushions for everybody" are not really connecting with the public. I don't believe people really understand what being a Libertarian is all about. Its just a niche thing for them. Or maybe a "not a republican or a democrat" thing.

No Libertarian *IS NOT* Fascism
Libertarian is all about *LESS* Government, more local. Or a Box puts it, "Anarchy Lite", it not quite that... but its a much closer description than "Fascism".
So, I guess you don't get the joke I made.

It doesn't mean lacking moral restraint as you have insinuated. Or even loose as others believe it to mean.

deals where someone might say they believe in communism, but not as practiced in the USSR, China or wherever
There is a Libertarian Party here in the US and I've heard the leaders speak on TV
I'm just taking what they said as my model of what it is

That might be the result
A corporate feudalism might be the result of a hard core libertarian government, but it isn't the goal.
The radical libertarian position suffers from the same problem that pure anarchy and simple community communism* suffer from. They depend on nearly every member of society fully embracing the belief system despite obvious personal advantage from subverting it.

* Soviet Russia was not a raw Marxist communism, it started as enforced militant communism and after Stalin was a authoritarian oligopoly in communist clothing.

Most Republican -> Libertarian
There is a lot of Republican -> Libertarian and Republican -> Independent switches going on, probably more to independent then libertarian. And the Democrats are not picking up very much, in fact more are leaving then joining. Few Democrats are going Libertarian though, it is mostly Independent or Green.
At one time there was a Democratic leaning chunk in the Libertarian party, but since the Green party has begun to build up some strength in the US that has faded.
Because of that the US is moving towards a situation where the Libertarian party is the "Conservative but can't support the Republicans" party and the Green party is the "Liberal but can't support the Democrats" party.
