Sony bows to the inevitable
[link|http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/07/09/sony.price.reut/index.html|http://www.cnn.com/2...e.reut/index.html] The PlayStation 3, which includes a 60-gigabyte hard drive and a Blu-ray high-definition DVD player, will now cost $500, or $20 more than the most expensive version of Microsoft's Xbox 360. [...] The price drop Monday was widely anticipated by industry analysts despite Sony President Ryoji Chubachi telling Reuters last week that the company had no immediate plans for one. [...] The Xbox 360 and Wii have outsold the PS3 by several times in the crucial U.S. market, leaving Sony, whose PlayStation 2 dominated the last console generation, in the unfamiliar position of playing catch up.

I might buy a nex-gen console...
When the games start being NEW and not re-hashes of everything old.
True the Wii has much new stuff, but I guess I've never been a huge fan of Nintendo since the Gamecube showed up. Its a stigma that they haven't shook yet, at least for me.

What I'd like to see
is to be able to get that wand thing they have for a PC. I could see that being pretty damn cool for some of the games I like to play....

Evidently the Wii controllers...
Are capable of being used with a PC. Just not sure if the games would recognize them.

Well, I figure it's probably a driver issue
and what it would look like to the system; for example if it ends up presenting as a kind of mouse, it might well work with a wide variety of games; think of the potential application for first person shooters, for example. Also, the possibility of expanding those kinds of games capabilities is good; you could add good hand-to-hand combat capabilities to a game like Counterstrike with a controller like that.

It'll probably be a PS3 for me, eventually.
The lack of HMDI output on the 360 and the Wii is pretty damning.
Plus the 360 seems to be in full-on self-destruct mode at the moment. Forza is killing consoles.

For me, only if it comes way down in price
I don't really care about the HMDI at this point; our television can't handle it anyways. There's plenty of Fun Stuff for the Wii and PS2 at this point, so no need regardless.

Well, I want a Wii, too;
And I want high quality video, and I've only got one set of component inputs on the telly.
I do, however, have two HDMI inputs, one of which is vacant.
Swapping component cables over when switching between consoles would be a chore and no mistake.
And yes, I too am a tight-arse and will be waiting for a bit of a price drop.

How about a switchbox?
[link|http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BVIBGI/ref=dp_cp_ob_title_0/102-5203268-4616927|http://www.amazon.co...2-5203268-4616927]
$20 and you can switch between devices by pushing a button instead of swapping cables around.

We've got a similar one
Works great. Cable, s-video, component, RCA, and optical outputs.

Hmm, interesting.
Still think that both MS and Nintendo missed a trick with the lack of HDMI, though.

Interesting timing.
It will also drive down the prices of standalone BluRay players. There's probably someone in Sony unhappy about that. There's probably people outside Sony unhappy about that!
Interestingly, I saw an ad on TV the other night for a new PS2 game. That must be a bit of a kick in the teeth for Sony.
