Surely you must find that a bit bizarre compared to all the neighbouring states?

Unless self-service is rare in the US, anyway. (In Australia, better than 99.99% of petrol stations are self-service.)

Supposedely it was framed as a safety issue.
Or possibly a jobs one.
And yes, it is uncommon.

New Correct.
Only state in the nation where that's the case, as I recall.

My mother just last year pumped her first gallon of gas into her own car ever, I believe, when she and my father moved from NJ to NC.
