It was late I let the frustrations and tensions of the day determine the way I approached the debate.
With that in mind, what I found is that in the time period from 1974 to 1994 the scandal involving arrest or convictions of politicians for having sex with minors was relatively even:
Rep. Fred Richmond (D-N.Y.)
In April 1978, Richmond was arrested in Washington for soliciting sex from a 16-year-old boy
Rep. Robert Bauman (R-Md.)
On Oct. 3, 1980, Bauman, a leading "pro-family" conservative, pleaded innocent to a charge that he committed oral sodomy on a teenage boy in Washington.
Sen. Brock Adams (D-Wash.)
On Sept. 27, 1988, Seattle newspapers reported that Kari Tupper, the daughter of Adams's longtime friends, filed a complaint against the Washington Democrat in July of 1987, charging sexual assault. She claimed she went to Adams's house in March 1987 to get him to end a pattern of harassment, but that he drugged her and assaulted her.
Rep. Donald "Buz" Lukens (R-Ohio)
On Feb. 1, 1989, an Ohio TV station aired a videotape of a confrontation between Lukens, a conservative activist, and the mother of a Columbus teenager. The mother charged that Lukens had been paying to have sex with her daughter since she was 13.
I left out Inouye and Packwood
Since 1994 things are quite a bit different (again I am only dealing with arrest or conviction of sex with minors):
There are 5 Republicans compared to 1 Democrat who have been arrested or convicted of having sex with minors.
The Democrat is Mel Reynolds who was convicted in 1995 with having sex with a 16 year old campaign worker.

The Republicans are:
Republican congressional aide Jeffrey Nielsen to Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher was arrested for having sex with a 14-year old boy.

A former prosecutor charged with fondling a 10-year-old girl at a concert was sworn in as a Monroe County judge. The judge, Mark Pazuhanich, took his oath in private after county officials asked him not to attend a ceremony for elected officials. The county's president judge immediately barred Mr. Pazuhanich from hearing cases. Elected in November, Mr. Pazuhanich, a Republican, was in the final weeks of his term as Monroe County's district attorney when he was cited for public drunkenness and was then charged several days later with three misdemeanors, indecent assault, corrupting a minor and endangering the welfare of a child.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Philip Giordano, the former Waterbury mayor convicted of violating the civil rights of two girls he sexually abused, has been sentenced Friday morning.
Giordano, who pleaded not guilty, was sentenced to 37 years in prison.
Giordano's sister and mother attended the sentencing. His wife was not present.
"This case is the worst I have ever seen," said U.S. District Judge Alan Nevas in passing sentence. "Your conduct is the worst I have ever seen. I've seen drug dealers, murderers. What you did is indescribable."

State Rep. Keith Westmoreland, R-Kingsport, was arrested last week in Florida on seven felony counts of lewd and lascivious exhibition to minors under 16 and is free on $3,500 bond, Walton County, Fla., Sheriff Ralph Johnson said yesterday.
Westmoreland, 55, a former chief deputy for the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, has served in the state legislature since 1993.

I left out numerous republican officials who have been convicted of having sex with minors, but there seems to be a similar pattern at the local level.
I point I wished I had made last night was that more pedophiles are attracted to what the Republican party has become than the Democratic party. Nor do the Republican party leadership seem to be doing anything about it.
