New Roy & HG on the olympics
Not that most of you will get to see 'The Ice Dream', their nightly re-cap of olympic events, but they had some quality comments on the Luge (Or as they call it, the Do Nothing...)

Know your winter sports: Luge, men's singles; Utah Olympic Park
On Chang-Yong Lee, Korea
H.G.: "Here's the flap flap and he's into the do nothing. Roy, what do you like of the kid's style?"
Roy : "I quite like his style H.G., the only thing I would counsel him on, though, is that I think his dude is in the wrong attitude. It's all controlled by the angle of the dude, and if it's not facing perpendicular back towards you, often, just by instinct, you push it down when you're putting on your gear . . . I think he's pointing in the wrong direction."

Roy and H.G.: "Ohhhhhhh, he's caught sparks." [on the Dick Pound Corner]
Roy: "He's in trouble H.G."
H.G.: "It's a dog's breakfast."
H.G.: "One of the excitements about luge is that it's a sport for the stupid."
Roy: "It is."

New At least you can time the luge
An objective measurement, that is.

Timing the figure skating would be a neat trick.
Most of the work of government does not need to be done. - Attributed to Ronald Reagan, under whose administration the government expanded, of course.
New Was it here someone had the quote?
From some champion luger ... umm, lugeist? ... lugeiador? Anyway, how to do the luge:

"Lie down. Try not to die."
We have to fight the terrorists as if there were no rules and preserve our open society as if there were no terrorists. -- [link|http://www.nytimes.com/2001/04/05/opinion/BIO-FRIEDMAN.html|Thomas Friedman]

If luge is a sport for the stupid, I wonder what they think of the (aptly-named, IMHO) (returning Olympic) sport of skeleton. Luge. Head-first.

"The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by the skeptics or the cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need people who dream of things that never were." - John F. Kennedy
New It's a topic in their Forum
"What do you think about Skeleton? Is it madness, or the sport of kings?"

But that seems to be the only mention on their site. They may have mentioned it on the show, but I haven't watched 'em all yet.

The forum responses were mostly lame, though I liked this one:
"I figure the athletes that compete in skeleton are a sandwich short of a picnic. Either that, or they have nothing to lose. I mean would you stick your head on the bonnet of your car and set it on cruise control and just let it go? I don't think so."
