Sure!
I mean, it can't hurt to check.
Thanks.

\tI don't know specifically of any tech writer opportunities. My company is currently hiring programmers, but I don't think we have any need for a dedicated tech writer. Cellular South is hiring; it's possible they might need a tech writer. And there's a company in Hattiesburg that's doing a lot of tech hiring lately, but again, I don't know if they'd need a writer.
There's also the Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, which would be much closer to Monroe than Jackson. Being a research facility they just might be interested in a tech writer.
Beyond that I don't have too many ideas. I'll ask around at work and see if the sales guys (who have a lot of contacts in the industry) might know of something. Nothing concrete, but a couple of suggestions anyway. Hope this helps, and I'll post back if he comes back with anything more.

Thanks Steve
My initial searches in the Monroe area were... less than encouraging.

A warning
My friend replied with this when I thanked him for his time: \tNo problem. But you might want to warn your friend that Monroe is about the smelliest town in the South. It's got a paper mill, and the stench from that place could knock a buzzard off a gut wagon from ten miles away. He's definitely a southern boy :)

Can't smell much worse than Mt. Olive, NC
Pickle factory, brine...
When my wife went down to Monroe for her job interview she said she didn't smell anything particularly untoward. I suppose the trick is to live upwind. :)
