Is that with NO insurance?
Is so, seems about right. My portion for the girl was around $1,700, with about 50% insurance pay.

Sounds about right.
My 12-yo's are going to run about $5K over several years, but he has some seriously messed up teeth.

That's in the ballbark
My 12 yo completed "phase one" of his braces ($2500) and is being evaluated for "phase two" ($1000).
My 7yo is also starting with orthodonics. I'll be dishing out close to $4K for the both of them next month. It makes me ill.

Yeah, doesn't it drive you barking mad?
Ballbarking, so to speak... :-)

did you do the second opinion bit yet? All the adult teeth arnt there are they? I didnt second opinion because I asked if I should wait to ensure his growth is done. He said a year from now is fine, as long as it gets done by somebody.
thanx bill

Fairly new treatment method
This two phase business. They start the kids young when the jaws are still malleable, even when they still have some baby teeth. When that phase is done, they cement in a retainer for a couple of years. Once all the adult teeth come in, they take a 2nd look and see if any additional work needs to be done. It prevents them having to pull teeth and do other nasty work. I checked out a few orthdontists. This way didnt cost any more and it is less painful.
I had 10 teeth pulled before I went into braces in the 6th grade. They had to go up into my gums to take out adult teeth because I didnt have enough room for them to come down. I'm short 8 teeth in my mouth now. My kids have the same mouth structure, so if I can avoid having to have them go through that, all the better.

Same thing we were told.
My son has the bridge expander in right now to make more room for his teeth; he had to have 3 removed, but using the old methods he would have had 10 or more removed.
The orthodontist said he's seen older people who have had 12 teeth removed... there's not much left at that point.
