I especially don't like the concept of the rigorously forced right margin position. While it is true the one of jake123's posts, placed strategically at a high indent level, will force the right matgin out, I'd rather have that htne either a) have the post, and all subordinate posts truncated, or b) end up with 3 or so characters in each column.
