New Domain name on a box behind a DLINK DSL router?
I have a Windows 2000 Server with IIS 5.0, ASP.NET, etc.

It is on an Intranet hooked up to a private network off the DLINK DSL router that is hooked into the DSL modem. I use Ethernet.

Is it possible to run some software, or a DSN server, or something to get a domain name like BBS.NORMAD.COM (I own NORMAD.COM still) that is Internet accessable? I have heard of DSN software that allows you to assign a domain name to a dynamic IP (ala dhs.org, etc) but what about an IP behind the DSL Router on a private network? Can I control what ports get used on the server as well and only allow WWW, Telnet, SMTP, and FTP without losing the other ports for my Intranet?

Ideas?

New Port Forwarding required.
Since the DSL Modem seems to be doing NAT for outbound, it would have to do port forwarding for inbound. That is, you tell it connections to port 80 on the DSLAM-side must be connected to your Windows server on the ethernet side.

New Yup, I do it with my DLink DI-701
although I recommend upgrading the firmware and setup software -- for me it worked much better when I upgraded.

For the Di-701, it's on the virtual server page. You list the port number (80 for http) and the local IP address of the machine that the packets get forwarded to -- and then update your DNS page to point to your DSL modem's static IP address.

New I have a Di-804
I assume it would be the same, right? Upgrade the firmware and get the new software and set the virtual server page?

New Newer model,I believe
so it may support it w/o flash upgrade.

However, it's probably a good idea to check on DLink's page for newer versions and upgrade just to make sure you have the latest and greatest.

Your manual should make some mention of virtual server or whatever they decide to call it.
