Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Odds are...
...if we ever get hit by aliens from another planet, our best chances are to bend over and kiss our asses goodbye. I seriously doubt that, barring a "Footfall" scenario, we have a snowball's chance in Hell of actually doing anything to them beyond inconveniencing them.

If you can cross interstellar space, what do you think some apes with delusions of grandeur are going to be able to do to you?
Odoru aho ni miru aho!
Onaji aho nara odoranya son son!
New What would we have that they would want?
Our wimmen? Our bling? Our drugs?

I don't get it.

As you say, if they can travel here they've got technologies we can only dream about. Meaning: I don't think we'd have much to offer them, so why would they bother?

Cheers,
Scott.
(Whose worries of alien invasions are way down on his list of worries.)
New Entertainment? Kinda like a trip to the zoo :-)
Smile,
Amy

New Yeahbut...
:-)

They could just watch HBO or Cinemax or something.

Taking care of animals is a lot of work at times - it's easier to just sit back and watch.

Cheers,
Scott.
New There's nothing like a Grand Day Out, though :-)
Especially when it makes such a ruckus when they show up. Kinda like tapping on the aquarium.

New On that scale probably only one
On that scale there is probably only one resource we have they could want, the planet itself. That is assuming their habitable range is anything like ours, we have no grounds for making a guess on that likely hood. Even a civilization with faster then light travel might not be capable of creating planets. And even if they can, removing us might be a lot cheaper.

Of course all of this is built on the assumption they have reasons and motivations similar enough to ours that they can be understood. I tend to think this is likely at the level of basic resources like liquid water and oxygen atmosphere. But it is very likely their emotional and less rational motivations would be incomprehensible to us.

New Land.
We, ourselves, have nothing to offer. But we own a lot of prime real estate.

New Dunno. The gravity well is pretty big.
Presumably if someone has the technology to come here, and they want resources, then it might be advantageous to go to Mars (lots of land and even water in polar ice). It's much easier to come and go there than here on Earth.

Plus, there are fewer microbes and stuff that might be hazardous to their biology, as H.G. Wells's creations discovered. And even oxygen is pretty [link|http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2004-04/nsf-oha042004.php|hazardous to living things that haven't found ways to adjust to its presence].

Just some idle musings...

Cheers,
Scott.

New If that's the case...
...then we'll just have to make sure that Ender is prepared.

New Here is better, though.
Because we have a magnetic field, all that pesky annoying radiation that, on Mars, you'd have to shield for is taken care of.

Them giving a rats ass about us I find doubtful.

Well, maybe some of our music might interest them.
