Somebody should fire Biden.
Just saw on NBC news him give the soundbite of the century, in response to Matt Lauer he said...should we miss a "benchmark", the new buzzword, we should unilaterally walk away and look for a "regional" solution. (regional means give Iran, Syria, Saudi and Jordan say in Iraq. Great idea Mr B).
This will be immediately spin into a "cut & run" point of view and a willingness to deal softly with the "axis of evul".
What a maroon.

Dude, they're all politicians.
truth is a distant second to not giving the R side room to breath this close to elections. You've got their neck under your boot. Biden lifted that boot a little.

Yeah, I know.
I'm just personally of the opinion that everybody who thought that invading Iraq was a good idea should be reassigned to security detail over there.
Starting with Marlowe.

Biden was the first to bring up "benchmarks"
well over a year ago - and he was branded a cut n runner for it.
He's entitled to a little "toldjaso"

Its not the measuring thats the issue
its that he has no clear alternative position or "new idea" besides run. Him being on national tv and saying this at this point is feeding into the Republican message.
And while the war may not be popular, I don't thing a full retreat is any more popular.

Yup.
If it's really a fight for our way of life and our civilization, etc., then we shouldn't be messing around. If we could win WWII in 4 years, we should have been able to do what it takes to have a reasonably peaceful Baghdad and Basra in the 3.5+ years we've been there.
But I don't know that there's the will to do what it takes at this point.

Staying too long may well have worse consequences than leaving too early.
Cheers, Scott.

Aye - and any project manager will tell you
that lack of deadlines guarantees lack of progress.
So we need a timetable. We might revise it. But with no deadlines/milestones, there is no advancement.

yabbut...
In today's binary political calculus (not the math, rather the stuff that sticks to your teeth), timetable == cut'n'run (at least, if you're a Repo mouthpiece).

Heard an interesting opinion
that makes sense to me.
As long as we prop up the government, they can take potshots at the Sunni's and hide behind Uncle Sam's apron without fear of reprisal. If we simply leave, then they HAVE to make something work. IOW, we are enabling the violence. Toss in the fact that 70% think its OK to kill occupiers and I don't see any better plan.
Give then 6 months notice and tell them they'd better have their act together by then, 'cause we are SO OUTTA THERE.
