Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Rush is really, REALLY scared
Because this ad hominem attack is really low, even for him!
"He is exaggerating the effects of the disease," Limbaugh told listeners. "He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act. . . . This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn't take his medication or he's acting."

The FRWWs (Fundie Right-Wing Whackjobs) must be really really scared if this the best they can do. Lessee, 6 years of unfettered control of all three branches of our government, and their highly vaunted strategists and companion mouthpieces figure that the best and most prudent campaign approach they have is slamming a guy who suffers from a disease. I had no idea that the Right was this morally corrupt.

New Looks like he's having a "Coulter moment".
a la "little orphan Annie" blaming the 9/11 victimes wives of using their families deaths for profit and political gain.

Unwise, unwarranted, uncalled for? Certainly!

Based on fear???? What does Rush have to be afraid of? He's not going anywhere regardless of the election outcome.

New Actually I believe he's right
And if I could find the link, I'd say he's not even revealing a "secret". I remember seeing an interview with MJ Fox where they asked about his appearance at a congressional hearing. He said he intentionally didn't take his meds, so that his symptoms would be noticable. And he said as much in the hearing. So this wasn't any sneaky trick, it was a demonstration.

New Check here.
I'm not doubting your recollection.

[link|http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/8846.html|The Carpetbagger Report], reply #17. Rush repeats as gospel some claim that Fox was intentionally off his meds when he testified before Congress, according to Google. One has to be a member of Rush's site to see the link; I have no interest "to join Rush 24/7 and change your life" myself.

I haven't seen anything else on this topic.

But, and it's a big but, if his meds are like my MIL's, [link|http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/sinemet_ids.htm|Sinemet] and [link|http://www.requip.com/pd/cp-ar1.html|Requip], they don't really do much good anyway. Yes, she's more flexible and more mobile, but only slightly, and the side effects are no picnic.

Either way, Rush was off-base. He has no way of knowing whether Fox was off his meds or not. It would sure be nice if these [link|http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A55427-2005Mar21.html|Republican blowhards] would stop trying to practice medicine by video tape.

My $0.02.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Found it, on his own site

I had made a deliberate choice to appear before the subcommittee without medication. It seemed to me that this occasion demanded that my testimony about the effects of the disease, and the urgency we as a community were feeling, be seen as well as heard. For people who had never observed me in this kind of shape, the transformation must have been startling.

New Thanks. Re the current imbroglio, he says.

Fox addressed the controversy on Tuesday.

"I'm kind of lucky right now. It's ironic, given some of the things that have been said in the last couple of days, that my pills are working really well right now," he said.

University of Chicago neurologist Dr. Thomas Kelly says Limbaugh doesn't have his facts straight. Fox's disease has progressed where he no longer only gets tremors, which can be controlled with medication, but has more erratic movements which are caused directly by his medicine.

"Chaotic, maybe writhing, dance-like movements, or dyskinesia, the movements I've seen in Mr. Fox, are due to his medications," said Dr. Kelly.

Duckworth called Limbaugh's opinion ridiculous.

"That comment is trying to take attention away from the real issue at hand, which is we need embryonic stem cell research," she said.

Cheers,
Scott.
New And the REAL issue is...
...the implication that stem cell research is the "one true hope" he has for a cure. Its being put forward as the "magic potion" that will cure everything...and the latest Parkinson's study should leave strong doubt.

The news says "maybe injecting them causes tumors". The research model showed 100% of the test subjects (mice) with the same reaction. Thats one hell of alot stronger a possibility than "maybe".

Rush was wrong, there's no doubt about that. However, there's plenty of wrong to go around in this debate.

New Gotta say, rilly liked Limbaugh's "apology"
Highlights the overall morals and ethics of the raving right quite nicely, I'd say.

That story has been covered quite extensively up here; Fox is a Canadian, and it dovetailed nicely with the opening of a new stem cell research facility in Toronto, allowing the newscasters to link the stories together quite well.
