Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Think I need some fans
CPU operating 75-80 range..below max but warm. The hard drives are running way to hot...likely because of spacing and poor ventilation at the bottom of the case.

Sppedfan 4.3 reports I have the one hard drive (it reports as beginning to fail) operating at 50, a full ten degrees over spec. The rest are runnung in the low 40s, still higher than ideal but nothing like the maxtor 160.

CPU at 79 currently.

Looks like I need to pull it apart and reconfigure some stuff.

I've a feeling that the heat from the drives may be compromising CPU temp as well. May look into a better heat sync...and this one went on dry too, no gel.

New Sounds like a plan. You might want some of these.
[link|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811999602|NewEgg]. That was a quick search of fans at Newegg that have volume discounts. There may be others. (Your adventures reminded me of [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=240205|this] thread.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Scott.
New FANS FANS FANS
Get a good thermally controlled 80MM fans.

Find the Ball Bearing ones with a Discount when bought in qtys of 10.

10 actually costs less than 6 usually from Newegg.

If you think you can out some more fans in place, put more.

The nice thing about thethermally controlled fans is that when they need to be fast they are, when they don;t they aren't.

Put fans EVERYWHERE.

On High density hard-drive machine I usually make a bracket and add fans to blow on things directly. and you might also consider an 80 to 60 mm adapter for the process. Then put one of the 80mm fans on teh processor with the thermistor wedged in between some fins close to the base.

New Any thoughts on HD coolers?
New Not needed IF...
you follow the 1.0625 to 1.125" per hard drive spacing specs most manufacturers drill for...

Of course, you will need an 80mm fan at the head of the drives. 3 drives can be cover by on 80mm fan provided it has a thermistor and you put that themistor inbetween the pcb and the drive chassis.

usually they have some kind of non-conductive foam between them now. Make sure you get as close the the middle screw hole and about 1/3 in if possible. that s about where the pan motor "resides"

[edit]
BAHHH just scratch that crap you don't need to know.

[edit #2]

New Good, because that's a hell of a big fan
let's see, 80cm/2.54=31.5 inches, or just a little over two and a half feet.

You get that in there and blowing, and there's no doubt that air exchange is the least of your worries.... ;p
