Welcome to IWETHEY!

New do you have any evidence of vegatarians living that long?
No anecdotal stories about balkanese who live on turnips and dirt. My Maternal Gran ate bacon and eggs every day until she passed at 101. Typical average old time british diet. Meat from tins. No veggies unless boiled 3 hours or more. Steak and Kidney pie. Offal boiled, salted heavily and served with gravy. Salted cod. Kippers. Fried Fish n chips wrapped in newsprint.
thanx,

New Counterpoint
My dad smoked like a chimney, did little exercise and ate a diet that wasn't exactly brilliant.

He died at the age of 57, because at the end of the day, a poor diet, lack of exercise and a tobacco habit is bad for you.

People who wheel out the anecdotal "My old gran lived on chips, smoked 60 a day and lived until a hundred" are flying in the face of the fact that most people who eat crap diets and smoke a lot die younger than average.

New I think, mostly lack of exercise.

New No, it was the smoking.
But hey, if you want to believe that smoking doesn't massively increase your risk of an early death, then that's up to you.

New Not at all
My lack of exercise is bad, too.

If you notice most those anecdotal stories about the smoking, drinking, oldsters that don't go for the latest dietary fads - you'll see they are active and had a lifetime of hard work and execise...

You won't hear me say smoking isn't inherently bad for you - I think that exercise is the most important leg on THAT tripod, though.

New Not off hand
But if I put some effort into it I'm sure I could dig up a few studies.

You tell me not to provide anecdotal evidence to support the claim that a vegetarian diet promotes longevity, yet you proceed with telling me an anecdote about your grandma to support your opinion!

Anyway, I never said a vegetarian diet contributes to longevity. All I said was a statistical sample where n=1 is not valid.

Researchers have discovered with certainty, three longevity factors that appear to be universal:

* Dont get sick
* Dont get old
* Dont die
