Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Request for help
I've been unable to see either of my domains on knight since the first move. I didn't worry about it before the colo relo, but now I need to figure out what's wrong.

Can anyone check to see if they're seeing [link|http://dkime.com|http://dkime.com] or [link|http://dochope.com|http://dochope.com]? Scott was seeing them when the box was in his house, and I couldn't find it here. I still can't. Trying to figure out where the problem is.

New I don't see either
I'm guessing DNS propogation. I see nameservers for your domains as ns1 and ns2 @iwethey.org, but iwethey.org reports several MYDYNDNS.COM nameservers.

[link|http://www.ubuntulinux.org|Ubuntu]
New That is as it should be.
mydyndns.com is hosting the DNS for iwethey.org. ns1 and ns2.iwethey.org are in turn hosting the DNS for multiple sites on the iwethey machine.

New I get dkime.com but not dochope.com here
I'm guessing you might need to wait a bit more for the address change to move, but I'm surprised.

New I fixed them about 2 hours ago.
I made all the changes...

Including removing all the gregfolkert.net entries in the DNS zones.

I also incremented the serial numbers.

This tells me some OLD caching nameservers are scoffing at the new setup.

Plesk and cPanel run zone files doing these kinds of setup with name servers being a CNAME. Why then cannot others do it?

PS Admin, you shoudl use a kill -1 <named process id>

-1 == -SIGHUP which typically tells programs to reload the configs while running.

or kill -1 23239.

That way bind never stops running and it will continue to run with the old config until you fix it.

Much better than doing a restart.

Under Internet Tools at [link|http://www.more.net/technical/dns/dns2.html#tools|http://www.more.net/...s/dns2.html#tools], there's a list of online DNS diagnostic services.

DNS Reports shows several RFC violations, one of which is the presence of a CNAME entry. No other records are allowed to be present next to a CNAME record.

From the referenced RFC 1912 2.4:

However, DNS servers like BIND will see the CNAME and refuse to add any other resources for that name. Since no other records are allowed to coexist with a CNAME, the NS entries are ignored. Therefore all the hosts in the podunk.xx domain are ignored as well!

"Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson..."
New Claim is ns1.iwethey.org.->iwethey.org. (same for ns2)
New Have they been there?
A note to the CNAME record report says these may be cached along the line. That would explain the hit/miss situation, but strange that DNS Reports' server would have those cache entries.
New Not that I know of.
Regards,

-scott anderson
