New Depends on what you mean by return
Return to Cuba? Sure. Get back the land they had before? That is more questionable. Some sort of accommodation needs to be made, but in many cases there is no way they could be given the land back.

But the reality is that how this plays out will depend very much on how things turn out. If an American backed government is forced on Cuba, the American Cubans are liable to get more land and cash, but discover they are now hated in Cuba. If there is a calm transistion to an open democracy, it will be better in the long run.

New why do they need an open democracy?
Any opinions expressed by me are mine alone, posted from my home computer, on my own time as a free american and do not reflect the opinions of any person or company that I have had professional relations with in the past 50 years. meep
New Because they suck
But are still better then the alternatives.

Jay
New Is it?
Democracy resulted in Hamas being elected. Free'n'fair and all that.

Oh, you mean that OTHER democracy, where it means "elect the people the US would like you to elect".

if Hamas had been handled properly after they won, it would have gone a long way to making them want to stop.

New No I don't
When I say "open democracy" I don't mean "pro-US semidemocracy." Though that is certainly what a large percent of the US amd the current administration thinks it means.

If Israel really wanted to get rid of Hamas, the best thing they could have done was give them some money and let them become as corrupt and ineffective as the PA.

"So don't pay attention to the approval ratings that say 68% of Americans disapprove of the job this man is doing. I ask you this, does that not also logically mean that 68% approve of the job he's not doing? Think about it. I haven't."
Stephen Colbert, at the White House Correspondent's Dinner 29Apr06

New to allow the Fortune 500 companies to go in
and give raw capitalism to Cubans, so they can enjoy it just like we do here in the USA.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow
