Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Indeed!
Because pterosaurs are just like chickens, and in your considered opinion as a paeleontologist, this is screamingly obvious.

You need to get that knee seen to before it jerks you in the face.

New as an expert in watching the world around me
as opposed to staring at the end of my nose, I have found that bright colors call attention to one's self. Since as a prey species that usually isnt a good idea unless you are trying to get laid. That baboons ass isnt that color just to match yer face :-)
thanx,
bill

New I'm with you on this one
considering the sheer volume of comparable physiology in the current "age"...reaching this conclusion at this point does seem a tad "anticlimactic".

New Re: as an expert in watching the world around me
a) They didn't find a Pterosaur head with colors on it. They're assuming that part based on observation of other species that have ornamental sexual displays.

b) Be careful what being "an expert in watching the world around you" gets you:

New Perhaps I was being too subtle
My point was that back in the 1800s they thought Iguanodon looked like that picture (a giant lumbering iguana) because the tooth looked like a big iguana tooth and that's all they had from the "world around them" to go by.

More complete evidence has since revealed that the probably looked more like this:

Also, other leading theories as to the purpose of Pterosaur crests are that the were used to regulate body temperature, for aerodynamics, or a combination of all three.

New What about Birds of Paradise, then?
[image|http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/11/03/bird_wideweb__430x327,0.jpg||||]

Or peacocks:

Or the scarlet macaw:

What's that? Can't hear you. You appear to have your foot in your mouth.

New Ummmm . . . is there some confusion here?
You seem to be supporting the Box's case.
[link|http://www.aaxnet.com|AAx]
New No, I'm not.
Apparently it's a really bad idea to be brightly coloured if you're not trying to get laid.

The birds shown are that colour all the time - not just at shagging time.

Perhaps there's more to not getting eaten than camouflage.
