Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Hi!!!! I finally made it!!!!!!
After many attempts with usernames and passwords I finally got it right.
I had a bunch of help from bio. I am a friend of Laura's. She made me post a message on the site!
New Oh lord, save me from the exclamation marks.
Any more of those, and I'd say you are more likely a client than a friend.
New For those of you inquirying
as to WTF a shizzy is, Shizzy is my good friend Rita who needs to gain more computer experience. This is her first venture into posting on forums. Be nice to her, because if you scare her, she will go away. And y'all know we need more females on this board. So give a big hello to my friend Shizzy.
New Whoops- That post^^^^^ was me
I was signed in under one of Rita's many user names as I tried to get her set up. I am trying to give her technical support over the phone and it is a little challenging.
So yes, Rita is a good friend of mine. She has a wicked sense of humor and is a lot of fun. Be nice to her and maybe she'll show you.
New As if we didn't know.
[link|http://www.aaxnet.com|AAx]
New Well, it never hurts to be clear
New OK, we'll be nice
I'm sure she'll learn quickly enough about AOLisms like exclamation points and "Me too" - and to apply plenty of flamescreen before posting (online equiv. of sunscreen).
[link|http://www.aaxnet.com|AAx]
New Nice? You can't command niceness.
But since I'm such a generally nice person, I'll let the others deal with that quandary.

On the other hand: needs to gain more computer experience. is kind of odd.
Why?

Is computer experience a life skill, required for mere existance and personal growth? And if so, how does interaction with this group of people further that goal?

And this: know we need more females on this board.
Why?
Is there a particular viewpoint you feel is lacking, and only those with an estrogen level of X can provide it?

Hey Shizzy: Welcome.

Try to cut down the exclamation marks. Those, along with CAPS, get interpreted as coming from someone of (hmmm, let's see), lesser mental abilities, and then people either ignore or flame them for sadistic fun.

New Cut the girl some slack.
She's entering into the job market, just needs some experience tinkering around. I have her on the phone right now and just said to relax and pass around a doobie or something. If you give her a hard time right off the bat, she's not going to want to play with you. She is new to all this.

Maybe I should have clarified that the women on this board need more women on this board so we can talk about estrogen and afterbirth and all that fun stuff.
New Mmm. Good eat'n.
I'll let you choose what that refers to.
New I think I can guess.
New Andrew? When did you steal Barry's account?
New That last remark reminds me of an SNL skit...
...that didn't make the cut. It was from the 1st year, and the title of the skit was "Placenta Helper". I'm sure you can fill in the blanks (remember: Ann Curtain, John Belushi, et al.)

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow

If you're going to correct a name, at least correct it correctly. That's just sad, really.

New Welcome, Rita... And, Bio...
> Maybe I should have clarified that the women on this board need more women on this board so we can talk about estrogen and afterbirth and all that fun stuff.

This woman visits this board primarily to learn from the collective technical wisdom that exists within the members assembled here. Some of the political discussions are interesting, too. And, the community spirit/fellowship is pretty decent, too. I usually find other avenues, such as the discussion groups at [link|http://www.worldwit.org/|http://www.worldwit.org/] to be better geared to covering estrogen-infused subject matter.

Cheers,

New Oh my bad! Welcome, Rita!
Sorry I failed to do that earlier, I've had a lot on my mind today. Thankfully, my parents just got their power restored after 8 days, whew.

New I can explain that one... even though I'm not Shizzy
On the other hand: needs to gain more computer experience. is kind of odd.

Why?

Gaining computer experience covers a wide array of things. There's the technical aspect, there's the cultural aspect, there's the user-friendly aspect and there's the online community aspect.

I don't know which one she is seeking, but speaking for myself, I have gained computer knowledge regarding the following things by being a member of IWT:

Technical:
--How to use minimal html
--How to link to an avatar
--How to use blockquotes
--How to maneuver around a large site with actual divisions and multi-forums.

Cultural
--How to exist culturally on an online site with a diverse group of people
--Points of view from people around the world
--Lifestyles and customs from people around the world

User Friendly:
--Assistance and knowledge regarding a number of different software issues
--Assistance and knowledge regarding a number of different hardware things
--Answers to many other non-computer related questions

Online Community:
--The etiquette of the net
--How and when to post
--How to know when not to post
--The art of handling being flamed

There's probably a lot more, but these are the basics. :)

And in answer to this part:

Is computer experience a life skill, required for mere existance and personal growth? And if so, how does interaction with this group of people further that goal?

I have to say yes, in some ways. It has helped my personal growth to be a part of this community, to move beyond the basics of Yahoo to the more challenging aspects of a full blown site. As a result of being on IWT I can now handle a multi-forumed board on Y and R, for example.

For mere existence? Not really, not in the survival sense of the world. But to exist with many many many different people in the world, both online and off, I'd have to say yes. I learned a lot about co-existing on here, about how to live peacefully with many many types of people from all walks of life, all with their own set of entitled opinions, and I'm proud of that. I've grown a lot since being a member of this group.

Hope that answers your question.

Brenda

New Asperger much?
New Bio says you are entering the job market.
Have a particular area you are focusing on?
New See? Was it so hard to be nice?
Now maybe, just maybe, she'll reformulate her first impression of you and realize you're not an ass all the time.

New I'd prefer to start as an ass
That way, you get the real me, and I'm never worried about disappointing you.

Go review your intro - was a bit of trial by fire.

Hey Shizzie:

If you haven't done it, I recommend going into Edit Preferences and choosing to see new posts only, and only forums with new posts. Then take forums that you're not interested in, look at the "mark forum read" link, edit the timestamp into the distant future and submit that.

Stolen from Bio's into thread here:
[link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=193212|http://z.iwethey.org...?contentid=193212]

Don't forget to hit the "Mark Read" link when you are done reading a forum so it does not show up again until there is a new post. Without going through these steps, the forums can be a bit overwhelming.
New Easier way
... edit the timestamp into the distant future ...
Up at the top of the main page, there's [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/board/markReadList?boardid=1|Manage Forum Read Marks] link. Within there is a link for each forum to "Mark Read to 2030". Much easier for the computer newbie.
