Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I got pulled over this morning for speeding.
I was taking the kids to their day camp program. We were running late and it was all I could do to get them dressed and out the door. I drove them in my pjs, which was just a big shirt. Dropped them off, driving home, not paying attention, flashing lights. Crap.
Wasnt wearing a seatbelt, no shoes, no wallet. This is the 2nd time I've gotten pulled over the the exact same thing. It was a short drive. Who woulda thought?

Cop comes to the car. There I am bed head, t-shirt. I try the big smile. He asked for license and registration. I told him they were in my wallet.

"Where is your wallet?"

"On the kitchen counter next to my coffee mug."

"Do you know how fast you were going?"

"Yes. If you were driving in a t-shirt with no seatbelt, no license and no registration, you'd be in a hurry to get home, too."

He looked a me. I saw him hide a grin. "Ma'am, go home."

"Thank you, officer."

YES! No ticket for me! Again. He was the same cop that pulled me over the first time. I need to send him a basket of muffins.
New Glad he gave you a break!

New Don't count on a 3rd time. :-) Glad you lucked out again.
New Only in the USA
You'd have been done for 3 points for speeding, 3 points for no seatbelt, and probably incurred a fine of 60 sheets for each.

6 points on your licence would have meant a significant hike in your insurance costs.

New You dont have to tell me
I was doing mental calculations of how much this was going to cost me. The seatbelt alone is $65. Going 15 miles over the speed limit- steep fine and points. No license/registration- $180, IIRC.

Next time I'll buckle up and have my wallet.

We have a small police force here. This was the same officer who responded a couple yrs ago when I thought my ex had drank himself to death and I needed help getting in his apartment. Since this was my 3rd encounter with him, I think he recognized me.

New the occasional humanity of our constabulary...
given what is too frequently an institutional culture that condones loutishness and bullying, is deeply gratifying whenever it is unexpectedly offered up. But while you must feel free to drive around wifout no pants on whenever the spirit moves you, you really ought to keep the seatbelt engaged so that you do not accidentally deprive your wee bairn of their mother's own humanizing influence while they are yet small and impressionable.

cordially,

Impeach Bush. Impeach Cheney. Do it now.
New For the record
I had my seltbelt on when the kids were in the car. Always do. I unbuckled when I dropped them off and was helping them collect their backpacks.
This morning I was fully dressed, skirt *and* makeup, buckled in, with wallet. I was a sublime matriarchal role model. Strap a strand of pearls around my neck and you could easily confuse me with June Cleaver.
New You still have that type of skirt in your closet?
You really ought to go shopping.

New You'd be just as dead if they weren't in the car
Not wanting to kill yourself in front of them is commendable. But I think everyone would rather if you don't kill yourself when they are not as well.

Ben
