Suppose they didn't look exactly like you expected...

"This involves pounding and massaging the developing breasts of young girls with hot objects to try to make them disappear."
[...]
"Anthropologist Dr Flavien Ndonko says that breast ironing is not an effective method of preventing early sex and pregnancies because many of the girls still become pregnant."
Not effective.

They do such sick things to girls in Africa
If parents did such things to their children in the US, they would be put behind bars, Thank God!
I think Iman, David Bowie's wife, is from Somalia and wrote about the horrors of the genital mutilation from which she suffered. Of course, she eventually had enough money to have corrective surgery, but it is a cause that she is trying to bring to more people's awareness.
That stuff just turns my stomach.
We now return you to our regularly scheduled jocularity.
Not smiling, Amy

You mean like putting sacs of salty water in their boobs?
Sucking the fat out of their sides? Encouraging self-starvation?
Just pointing out that it's not all one sided, and that you're painting with a very broad brush; Africa is an entire continent after all.

Adults do those things to themselves by choice.
The acts I was referencing are perpetrated by adults to children without the child's consent. Big difference!

You are naive
I have a question... do you think young women are bound into sexual slavery in North America?
You should go surf some porn sometime, and look at the number of nominally eighteen year old girls who bear obvious marks of plastic surgery, and tell me that the consent was informed.

You are an ass
Let's go ahead and grant what you say is true. Plastic surgery at least is performed with anesthesia. I'm railing against the barbaric practices done to CHILDREN.
End of line.

However, there's that thing in the bible about motes and beams.
Who's an ass?

Your response was petulant
Calling me naive and telling me to look at porn was uncalled for. You are totally missing my point, Jack. I am not condemning the entire continent of Africa. And I am aware that there are certain abuses in the United States. But I am appalled at the widespread practices in many African nations in which parents mutilate their young daughters for the sake of chastity.
Generally, in the United States or Canada, you don't find parents who put their daughters in the sex trade business. Now, I'm sure there are exceptions, but note the word "Generally". Most kids who end up in the sex trade are runaways. I'm not saying that is good. It is reprehensible. But, again, the point I was making was that the actions made by parents against their children are frightening.
Shake hands and call a draw, shall we?
