That advice is only good if...
you're dealing with someone who knows that they want to read the series.
But Laura doubts that she wants to read the series at all. Therefore it makes sense to start with a relatively independent book like Small Gods or Pyramids so she can find out that she does want to read the rest of them.
Cheers, Ben

Depends.
You're assuming that one, "The Colour Of Magic" isn't good enough to keep her attention in the first place (personally, I think it's a great book), and two, that she's not the sort of person who really likes to read things in the order they were written (like me).
You gave me the same advice and I blithely ignored you, and I'm glad I did. ;-)

Fewer assumptions than you think
I'm not assuming that the first book will not be able to keep her attention, I'm expressing fear that it might not. While I liked it, I agree with Todd that it is a weaker book than the rest, and Meerkat stands as an example showing that this fear is valid.
I'm also not assuming anything about how much she wants to read things in the order that they were written. I'm making it perfectly clear what order they were written in, and saying where I would suggest starting. Laura's a big girl, I assume that if she's anal-retentive about doing things in the "right" order, then she'll know that about herself and know to disregard advice that won't work for her - like you did.
The fact that I offer advice doesn't mean that I expect that advice to be blindly accepted. If I did have that expectation then I'd just say, "Here's what I recommend." But I don't, so instead I say, "Here's what I recommend and why I recommend it." What to do with that advice is then entirely up to her.
Cheers, Ben

Oooh, this is an argument I want to see at Beeps!
Of course what we won't see is all of the stuff that neither of you will admit to. I'm not sure which of you that favours.
I note that at [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=128365|http://z.iwethey.org...?contentid=128365] you declined to take the test and report a score. Suggested resolution...
Both you and Scott prepare a lechery test for the other to take. Both of you include your own scores on your own test.
That test can have lots of things that you've done and won't admit to because it will also have lots of things that you haven't done. Nobody will know which things you have and haven't done. The name of the game is plausible deniability.
The showdown can be at the Beep bash.

Needs a review panel for weighting
#1 - Action speak louder than thoughts. If you really think you should get points for thoughts, fine, but actions should be weighted with a multiplier. #2 - Individual Yes No scores should not have the same value for wildly varying activities. Some things are much more "valuable" from a points perspective.
So, we need a range of possible weighting factors, let's say 1-5. And it only applies to actions, not thoughts.

Simple spreadsheet
Prebeep we gather the list of offences. At Beep, we call out the offence, and let people shout a number from 1-5. You've got to think that the calling out of the offense will be entertaining enough to keep people's attention. If not, then it is not good enough to be included anyway. No agreement? Screw it, who ever is typing chooses the answer.

What? Nobody else wants to contribute?
Come on, am I the only person who will share the kinds of things that I can think of that happen with sex?
So far I've just had questions about who you have had sex with. I haven't even covered that ground very well. For instance a few more:
Had sex with strangers you just met? Frequently? Multiple times in a night? Multiple strangers at once? Later accidentally encountered one in a very different social setting?
There are no questions about the act yet. I really don't feel qualified to fill this in, but I've known people who've most of the following:
French-kissed? (Here Thane! A freebie!) Had a 3-way French kiss? Masturbated? (Special for Thane! You can count yourself as corrupted now!) Where you could be caught? In a public place? Masturbated someone else? Where you could be caught? In a public place? Had sex where you could be caught? In a public place? Seen pornography? Seen pornography in a theater? Filmed yourself having sex? Shown the video to others? Been to a strip club? As a performer? Had vaginal intercourse? Oral intercourse? Anal intercourse? Participated in 2 of these at once? (You might not have been the person to whom both were happening.) Participated in all 3 at once? (Ditto.) Had 69? Had > 1 orgasm in 24 hours? > 2? > 3? > 5? Caused > 1 orgasm in 24 hours? (Your own don't count.) > 2? > 3? > 5? > 10? Caused > 1 person to orgasm in 24 hours? (You don't count.) > 2? > 3? > 5? > 10? Had sex continuously for >15 minutes? > 30 minutes? > 1 hour? To the point of physical pain? Had oral intercourse with a gag reflex involved? Was there vomit? Kept eyes open while orgasming during sex? Were you looking in your partner's eyes? Used lingerie during sex? Used toys during sex? Used roleplay during sex? Had partner pretend to be person you'd rather be fucking? Was it someone you both knew? Pretended to be person your partner would rather fuck? Was it someone you both knew? Tried water sports? (If you have to ask what that is, you haven't.) Tried strangulation? Tried S&M? As top? As bottom? Suffered/inflicted injury during sex? (Accident OK.) Continued anyways? Intentionally did it again? Suffered/inflicted serious injury during sex? (Accident OK.) Continued anyways? Intentionally did it again? (*)
Now come on, there must be someone who is willing to add to this list some things they have doneheard of...
Cheers, Ben
*) Note, this is the only item that I don't personally know someone who I think has done. I've done very little, but I know people...

You want more, you got more!
Have you had phone sex(with someone you know)? Have you called a 900 number (phone sex with someone you don't know)? Have you had IM sex? Have you ever had sex that involved flavored lubricants? Have you ever used water in oral sex? Did you ever look at an animal and think "If Only!"? Do you have to take showers to hide your masturbating? Do you take your laptop into the bathroom to look at porn? Did you ever get anybody drunk just to shag their brains out? Shortest time between meeting and humping(without money being exchanged) <1 week, < 1day, < 1 hour, < 15 mins. Have you ever been to a Rainbow Party? Have you ever participated in an orgy? Do you think about sex 24/7? Is the song "Aqualung" a mild representation of your personality? Do you look at every person you meet as a potential lay?
If you answer yes to the last five questions, you win the contest! And, uh, stand over there...yeah, waaaay over there, ok? Thanks. LOL

In a car while driving fast? With other drivers whizzing past? I wonder how long that would last. (Before someone ends up in a cast)
In the back seat in a cab? Driving the taxi driver mad?
On an airplane? In a train? On the hood of a car? Maybe outside in the rain?
In a restroom? Please be quiet. The person in the next stall Might want to try it.
Have you had sex on a beach? With other couples within arms reach?
On a Harley? In a truck? In the neighbors pool? Now theres a good _______. (Sorry. It rhymed.)
Have you had sex that made you cry? So good that you want to die? Where time stands still and hearts beat fast The kind you want to last and last?
Have you faked it? Or has she? You probably wouldnt know, you see. Especially if it was me.
With how many people have been? 50? 25? Maybe 10?

If the desire is strong enough, it will turn into action :-P
But if it makes it easier, we could alter the test from, "Which of these have you done?" to "Which of these have you masturbated to thoughts of doing?"
That massively lowers the bar. And makes it just thoughts.

Ya wanna just give up now?
You are arguing to be a scumbag. And you are trying to do it based on thoughts.
If it was thoughts alone, with the exception of a few items (very few), I'd say yup, check it off, move on. Most of us with a bit of testosterone and mildly attractive aquaintences would do the same. Or so I believe.
The real test is given a chance, do you act upon it. And not given a chance, do you make a chance.

Hard to say.
I dont know Barry like I know you, but it's safe to assume I'd be hard pressed to find anyone more lecherous than Mr. Bill.

Um you don't get a score like Barry's by...
scoring highly on some portions of the test.
You get it by scoring highly on all portions of the test!
(Lechery included.)
Cheers, Ben

Reading it more carefully...
You're right that Barry's overall score is likely to be higher than yours.
But my point was that he can't be missing much on any section, lechery included, if he got the score he did. So if unless you have close to a perfect score on that, Barry beat you on that section too.
Anyways this is not a good way to resolve this question.
Cheers, Ben
