Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Hoot!
I saw this on Friday evening, and it's a delightful film, even though it's geared for a younger audience. I read the novel first, which was also a good read, and thoroughly enjoyed the film. The scenery was beautiful, and the message it sends about helping others who can't always help themselves, (in this case both the barefoot boy and the owls), is a good one.

I think this is a movie the whole family would enjoy, from the children up to the adults. There are only a couple startling things involving alligators and snakes that might scare really young kids, but otherwise it's fairly child safe.

And the owls really do steal the show, they are just absolutely adorable! Anyway, just wanted to post my thoughts on this movie/book.

New My son wanted to see that movie on his birthday
Instead, we saw "Over the Hedge". Ehhh, I could take it or leave it. Kids like it, though. We'll wait for Hoot to come out on DVD.

New We almost missed it ourselves!
I had been behind in newspapers for weeks, due to finishing up stuff for the reunion, so I heard about it late, and tracked the book down even later.

It left first run theaters that same Friday, so we thought we wouldn't get to see it, but I was happily surprised to learn it went to the budget theaters that same night. That's unusual, so I was really excited that I got to see it and didn't have to wait for it on DVD.

And the paper reviews (I'm slowly catching up), say that Jimmy Buffet has a cameo, but I never saw him. Of course, I don't really know much about how he looks, only that my brother's band plays Parrothead music, which is essentially, Jimmy Buffet-type music.

I don't think I would like Over The Hedge, but I don't know. I'm not real big on the animated movies where the animals talk, not really. I prefer the movies where the animals are real, and in Hoot, that was the case, and they don't do weird things. Originally I thought March Of The Penguins had the animals talking, but I think I've realized now that wasn't the case. So I'll probably see it on DVD sometime, but it never grabbed my attention like Hoot did.
