New Firefox consistently getting encoding wrong
Firefox 1.5 and Bon Echo 2.0a on Windows consistently seem to think that the following page is Chinese, and so the price gets all arsed up:

[link|http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/77984.htm|http://www.pistonhea...m/sales/77984.htm]

(Car I'd like to buy - if only I could get the buyer to hold on for a couple of years. *sigh*)

Can anyone clue me in? Can anyone reproduce it? Other browsers seem to cope with this site OK (Safari, IE, Opera (and Opera on my phone)).

Use P2P for legitimate purposes!
New Seems fine in FF 1.5.0.3/Win32.
I don't see any problems with the rendering here. The source looks a little strange though. It's sprinkled with things like:

<script type="text/javascript"><!--
if ( phWinWidth > 1000 )
{
document.write('<s' + 'cript language="javascript" ')
document.write('src="/phbs/v2inject.asp?F=17&Z=5&N=5">');
document.write('</' + 's' + 'cript>');
}
--></script>

Is the javascript being mangled? What's your desktop? Mine here is at 1600x1200.

HTH.

[Edit:] Encoding shows up as "ISO-8859-1" , while "Render Mode: Standards compliance mode" here.

Cheers,
Scott.
(Who thinks it's a nice car, but a (to be) 10 year old 535i manual might need lots of $$$ maintenance by then...)

New Lots of maintenance?
Naw, that's French cars you're thinking of...

Big old BMWs tend to have worked out all their problems by about 60K miles - witness the folk picking up E34 5s for 500 quid and running them for 30K miles between services. As long as it hasn't been thrashed (and, tbh, even if it has, as long as it's been serviced), it'll be fine.

And I'm at 1280x1024. I'd purge my profile, but there's too many cookies and passwords and whatnot.

This is a minor annoyance.

New Known JS trick.
Dividing the SCRIPT tag up into a concatenated string prevents browsers detecting the tag when they shouldn't be and potentially mangling the transition to or from JS and HTML.

New Known bug
I get the same thing under 1.5.0.3 under Windows. Can't find the specific bug in Bugzilla, but autodetect guesses chinese encoding when it shouldn't. Probably effects every browser that used the built in Gecko autodetection.

New Looks fine on FF 1.5.0.1, Ubuntu Breezy w/Automatix upgrade
View | Character Encoding | Auto-Detect currently says "(Off)"
View | Character Encoding | (encoding list at the bottom) currently says "Western (ISO-8859-1)"
