Bars are a bad place for me to meet women.
I've got a fairly bad hearing loss; I can cope if it's relatively quiet, but in white noise situations (like a noisy bar) it gets nigh impossible for me to hear people. About two years ago, a doctor said that if I got a $2k hearing aid (not covered by my insurance) there was a small chance it might make it better, but in all likelyhood I'm SOL for noisy situations.
I agree with the basic theorem (find a place where you can a) meet women who b) can't stand the other men), just the particular location would not work for me.

Oddly enough, I can do that to a certain extent...
...problem is I keep getting slapped because she thinks I'm staring at her boobies. :D

always start with a
"forgive me if I appear to be staring, I am somewhat hard of hearing and read lips to assist." Then you can stare all you want. thanx, bill

Volunteer
at some non-profit. Lots of nice women with good hearts working in non-profits.

Yep.
I've done a bit of that. I'm also signing up to help out (general grunt work) with a few plays that are being put on in a bit.

Oh there you go - acting class!
Dance class is also a winner - women usually outnumber men 3 to 1 or more.

Tried dance.
Oddly enough, it was about 50/50. Sadly, the unaccompanied women were all 50+ and not of my type. Of course, I took the community college course; I'm going to be taking Swing classes at the Savoy Swing Club in Seattle in a month.
Hrm, drama classes... I'm AWFUL at acting. Love watching plays, love helping out, but my GOD do I have a monotone reading voice. Saw a prisoner doing the "band of brothers" speech from Henry V - and he fucking nailed it to the wall. Me? I'd put people to sleep, while trying to wipe tears out of my eyes 'cause that bit does something to me.

Crud.
Drama class @ my college (DRA 120 Intro to Acting) is MWTh 11-12:30; no way I could take that off in the middle of the day.
Will look around and see if they have any "acting for idiots" in the community at large.

Dunno about Seattle...
...But out here in northern Illinois, there are a bunch of Jaycees chapters. The one I joined up with while single had a disproportionately large number of people my age, most of whom were single (by virtue of the fact that most married people don't have time for volunteer organizations...)
