Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Time to check archive.org
They've removed Jerry's email link from his bio page. Oh, and take a look at [link|http://www.cityoftuttle.org/|http://www.cityoftuttle.org/]. Looks like Vidia isn't completely done screwing up yet. But hey, follow the contact link from that page and you'll find ... no email or response links for a freaking ISP! So they had time to modify their placeholder page to remove the contact info, but couldn't fix the config file to put the right site back up. Awesome.

Hey, lookit that, I can't check it on archive.org. [link|http://web.archive.org/web/20060328082418/www.tuttle-ok.gov/robots.txt|http://web.archive.o...ok.gov/robots.txt]

Oh, and I was bored, so I wrote this to mayor@cityoftuttle.org

Mayor Paxton:

I imagine you may have already heard about the problem your city manager Jerry Taylor had with your city's website. If not, the short version is that the Internet Service Provider that hosts your site, Vidia Communications, had a server crash. When the server was re-started, due to a configuration error a default information page was displayed saying that the operating system had been successfully installed.

Instead of following the directions on this page and contacting the site administrator, he did exactly what the page said *not* to do: he contacted CentOS, the organization that provided the operating system software free of charge. Not only did he accuse them of hacking his website, he threatened to contact the FBI if they didn't immediately remove the software.

After explaining that they had no access to the system in question, and after several requests for information from CentOS personnel so that they could help Mr. Taylor solve his problem -- requests which were met with increasing vitriol and threats -- CentOS did the research themselves at no cost to your city. They provided this information to Mr. Taylor. Instead of offering thanks for fixing a problem they didn't create, he berated them for taking so long to fix it. (The whole story can be found at [link|http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/03/27/tuttle_email/|http://www.theregist.../27/tuttle_email/])

Mr. Mayor, Jerry Taylor has made himself a laughingstock. Thanks to him, people around the world are questioning your slogan, "Where People Grow - Friendly!" If he approaches vendors working with the city with this same attitude, I would expect none of them are interested in doing more work for the city. Instead of responding to the publicity that he claimed in his emails to CentOS that he welcomed, Mr. Taylor has removed his email address from the city website, and ignored requests for comment from the news organization that broke the story.

I have no vested interest in any of the parties to this story. I just thought you should know the international impact on your city's reputation caused by the arrogant, combative behavior of the city manager.

Scary stuff.

Lots of black bag, remote explosives, CIA contract work, etc.
New I am *sooooo* scared
First he'd have to find someone actually capable of doing something for themself, then yell at them until they decide it's worth coming after me. Frankly, I like my odds
