Been digging through my old demos
which are mostly on cassette tapes and digitizing them before the audio gets any worse.
Little blast from the past - I was declared the hottest band in New Mexico in 1987 for this little number. Enjoy.

Were you around during the tech "Outlaw" era?
I think that's the name of the band at NMT.
They were rather before my time but came back to play a 49'ers one year when I was there. It was annoying to us because they wouldn't book our band even though were were playing in town regularly but they reserved a slot for them because they were alums.

I was just before the "Outlaw" era
Was out of Tech by '75. Remember them being booked for the Centenial. Don't know why you weren't booked...seems rather arrogant on their part.
Anyway, that cut was some nice stuff! Got anything else? I'd sure like to add some of that to my stash!

There's more
but I'm loading it from cassette (real time audio capture) and then using some cleaning utilities to remove noise. It takes time. I'll let you know when I get more.

So far just Amadeus, but considering trying sound soap.
With Amadeus, you select some "silence" at beginning or end and it will remove that pattern - good at pulling out periodic pops general hiss and such.

I use CLEAN
originally from Steinberg (the people who brought you Cubase and Nuendo[sic?]), now handled by Pinnacle. Provides the "silence removal" function you describe, and because it supports VST (natch!) plug-ins, you can add some really nice sound processors. Comes stock with all the pop, scratch, noise and rumble filters you'd expect for an LP cleanup utility (which is what it's target is), but also supports such niceties as 3-D expansion, an octave graphic Eq, compander, some sound effects (phase shift, reverb), and a stripped down version of Wave-lab. They even have a version with a pre-amp for a turntable.

Hey, Thanks! I'll definately give the demo a spin...
...to see how it compares to CLEAN. I've always been partial to Steinberg, but I don't like what Pinnacle has done to it (relagating it to second-class citizen status...which, of course, you knew would happen when they took Steinberg over...).

Same thing happened to Vision
when Gibson bought Opcode - they just ran it into the ground. Opcode guy works for apple and does coreaudio and coremidi now.

Yeah, Gibson (or its proxies) has a history of that.
Remember Photon? A very cool guitar to MIDI conversion company that used light to do frequency conversion. They had the first (and probably still the only) frequency conversion technology that could properly track bass, being able to convert it in no more than a half-cycle, and do it accurately.
Gibson (or actaully Norlin) basically bought it, then killed it.
And don't get me started about Moog....

I did all but singing
The band was called "Fiction" because it was a recording project with me and the singer - there was no band.
She had recording gear and no knowledge of how to use it, I had synths and knowledge but no recording gear, we both wanted to enter this local talent contest and so we teamed up to do two songs - one I wrote and sequenced, one of hers she wrote and played keys and I did percussion and played guitar.
I did all knob twiddling. Little by little I'm getting a studio built and will resume cranking stuff out.
