Ghod, have you seen the prices on those
that smacks of total market manipulation to me.
New CD burner, IDE - thirty bucks
New CD burner, SCSI - four hundred bucks (i'm not making this up!)
Nailing the hardware industry for market manipulation - priceless, if I ever thought it would actually happen.

I've a SCSI CD-ROM that I might be persuaded to part with...
It's a 2x SCSI CD-ROM that uses a caddy. Remember those?
I'm not sure how reliable it is though...

I've got two. One 4X & one 12X. Both Plextor.
Bought them when IDE burners under OS/2 was a major PITA.

At least in all the reviews.
Yup, got my standalone Plextor SCSI CD Burner.

Well, my Plextors all had problems and a short life.
Problems like the drawers refusing to open if there wasn't a CD in them (had to use a paperclip through the pin hole) and unreliable reads. My luck with other brands has been no worse.

I only have one.
I've used it for about 5 years.
Stopped about a year ago when I got a DVD burner.

Perfectly reasonable
There is a huge difference in the qty produced and the number of companies competing to sell them. SCSI was "enterprise" - servers, and disk arrays, IDE was desktop and consumer. IDE turned into SATA, SCSI (on the disk side) went to fiber channel on the high end or SATA on the low end.
The only reason SCSI CD-ROMS exist are for servers that already have SCSI, do not have IDE on the motherboard, and the admin does not want to waste a slot on a slow old IDE card for a CD-ROM. Free slots on a server are far more valuable than a few hundred bucks wasted on a SCSI CD.
When burners were first introduced, SCSI was better since it took less of the CPU and therefor was less likely to create a coaster. But those days are long gone, CPUs are much faster.

And in my experience, SCSI CDs fail at the same rate . . .
. . as IDE CDs - it's just hurts a lot more. Since every mother board comes with ATA built in preserving a slot is no longer an issue.
