I'm Baa-aaack
Or rather, my wife's back.
You see she's going into the hospital tomorrow for a [link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laminectomy|laminectomy] and spinal fusion of the L4-L5 joint, to repair the results of a previous laminectomy and [link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discectomy|discectomy] While the laminectomy was a "drive-by surgery", this one isn't; she'll be in the hospital for about 4 days, with some 6 weeks elapsing after surgery before she'll be allowed to start physical therapy.
So I could use another round of good thoughts from all youse, for me and especially SWMBO, Candyce.
thanx-

Wishing Candyce a successful surgery and speedy recovery. Good wishes to you, as caregivers need all the help they can get :-)
Much love, Amy
PS: Tip from someone who just came from the hospital... Take your own pillow and blanket (preferably a much loved and colorful quilt). It really makes a difference when the patient can snuggle into his/her own pillow and blankie.

In case you missed it then,
I had good news. my cousin and SIL made it to Texas and delivered the food, generator, etc, to the Texas relatives. They were grateful, everyone is safe, and it was a success.
So you can uncross the fingers you had crossed for me. :)

Yeah, sorry; I actually saw that, but I forgot.
Or, I can't tell for sure any more, maybe I just *pretended* I'd forgot (for the moment, while writing my previous post), because it made for a more dramatic image... Either way, Fluffybird, 't'was good to hear that something went well in this world! ;-)

Prayers and sympathies.
My (now) wife went through a discectomy at the same spot some years ago, however, they won't fuse the joint because it's too inflamed. Trouble is, anti-inflammatories either don't work or trigger side-effects in her. The latest is that she has an intra-thecal pump delivering morphine directly to the site.
It's all aboot quality-o-life, o'course...

Thanks, one and all...
I think this is the longest I've gone without posting (which may or may not be a good thing).
Anyway, Candyce us not back home, and once we got the meds adjusted properly, she's resting more or less (often less) comfortably. She's moving around the house on her oan,a nd doing some exercises to build up a little strength and keep everything loose. Now's the hard part...sitting around waiting for everything to heal.
Fortunately, Large Giant Corp. is letting me "work from home", and now that I have a) the VPN properly set up, and b) some time, I might actually get some work done.
Thanks, everybody, for the good wishes; I'm sure that the positive energy had (and continues to have) some positive effect.
Oh, and by the way, my sister's test came out...well, not very well. it appears that the seizures to not have a single locus, but several, making surgery more difficult. The Dr.s think that they can corect it with medication, and they're working on gettingthe dosages set up correctly (apparently, anti-seizure meds are somewhat more difficult to control than, say, your average aspirin). So we'll see how that comes out...
