Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Just heard - yep
The school called and talked with my sister-in-law. They told her the school insurance will cover 100% of his bills for 52 weeks.

My nephew's feeling OK today, only taking tylenol rather than the hard core pain killers. He's eating scrambled eggs and drinking lots of shakes and slurpies.

New Thats great news!
Glad to hear the school is taking responsibility, and that your nephew is feeling pretty good despite it all.

New 52 weeks is NOT enough
This could affect him for years as he grows.
Might needs work later.
Don't let them off the hook.
New Agreed.
If he can't get the teeth replanted, he's going to need new fixtures probably anually or more frequently for the next 10 years or so. It may start slowing down when he hits 17 or 18, but probably not before. There's a lot of growing to be done and the jaws go proportionaltly.
I recall my dentist saying he's replanted teeth up to 36 hours after, although the sooner the better.
New that's a good start
poor judgement by the teacher; it will be years before your nephew recovers. Hmm, maybe a good time to take up hockey? :-)
Have fun,
Carl Forde
New They should also...
Pay for replacement teeth when older.

Mainly, his jaw isn't done growing yet.

Make sure they get it in writing that not only the 52weeks, but when ~17 dental work done to restore a nice smile.

My 19 year old got her teeth knocked out when she was a flier in Cheerleading. They didn't catch her properly.

tooth out, teeth loose.

The lost tooth had a root canal and was bonded with shims to the surrounding teeth. the loose ones were also bonded.

They did pay for the work to be done during here Junior year.

New I'll bring it up with my brother
I talked to my SIL last night, I'd been hearing everything up to now via my mom.

His two front teeth had shifted upwards, one was split in half, the other chipped in half(and that chip is missing, the rest of the parts that fell out the school put in milk). The two next to them came out, though they were baby teeth. One or two other teeth were chipped as well. The specialist was able to shift his teeth back into position. They're waiting to see if there's been any nerve damage before deciding how to repair everything.
